What an awesome write up Joe, those buffers look fantastic. Great idea to leave them as is and keep the patina that shows how they've aged gracefully. Looks like you're on the way to starting a small museum of the history of paint polishing!

      Joe,
If one of the girls needs a date, perhaps we can introduce her to "Rocky"
Full name is Rockwell 1086 7" Polisher, Heavy Duty, bought in the 70's before Rockwell split Porter-Cable off as its own brand. Thirty-five years of occasional weekend work, with only a cord, brushes and some lubrication on his medical history chart. Weighing in at a beefy 10 lbs., 2100 rpm and 8 amps of power, the Rock is still ready and able to do a full day's work. Unfortunately, his primary operator is not so energetic, recently favoring the lightweight plastic machines, born in parts unknown, equipped with variable speeds. Rock only knows two speeds: off and full-throttle.
Like you, I don't ever forsee sending Rock off to old power tool heaven.
You don't find many items anymore with Pittsburgh PA on the label, if you don't count Heinz pickles.

Please keep those old tools fellas. They are such a throw back and show everyone where the art of detailing came from before the D/A.

That flex next to the old gals looks like shes had plastic surgery.

Ok ok bad jokes aside, The way each gal was introduced was beautifully written and interesting to say the very least. Glad to hear they will remain as is. The detailing side of me would love to clean up and try to bring those polishers back to mint condition but each battle scar they have tells a story of each one and that would be sad to erase. Great find Joe and thanks for sharing.

Joe. Awesome collection you got there! Glad to see that you still use the old school polishers. If I remember correctly I believe you used one of those bad boys on that blue mustang! Goes to show that amazing things can be done in the right hands and you dont need a high dollar polisher...

Nice collection Joe. Never heard of a lot of the old companies either.

My brother had an old Porta Cable that he bought at a yard sale. I'll have to ask him if he still has it.

I feel the same about my old Rockwell, as well as some other older drills and saws in my tool cabinets, much of which was passed to me from my late father. They're a reminder of the days when the best stuff on the planet was built right here on our own soil and designed to last indefinitely. Along with my array of Snap-On hand tools, it will all go to my son eventually and probably to his son too. Today's Makita, Dewalt etc. stuff is fine equipment, but I just don't see it lasting through 3-4 generations.
And I'll step down from my soapbox now.

                              Nice stuff Joe,

Would love to hear what how you like the Flex PE 14. I have a Makita which I really like, but the lighter weight of the PE 14 might be nice.

                              Your thoughts on that one?
