Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - April 21st, 2011

Wow, what a night! You guys kept us busy late into the night, and it was a blast!

We started out with some typically degraded headlights, and an owner who wanted to know how to correct this.

Some quick wet sanding by hand with 1000 and 3000 grit, then buffing out with a DA gave us this:

So we let the owner handle the rest of the work on his own.

    One down, one to go.

Chris came down with his Charger, which he says is still a work in progress, but what work he's done so far! Shaved door handles, carbon fiber hood and trunk, and pearl blue paint with a matte clear. Not every day you see pearl paint under the matte clear, but the effect is pretty cool. From some angles the car looks flat black, from others flat blue. He had the same pearl blue added to the clear over the carbon fiber panels giving an awesome effect. He even feathered the edges of those panels to avoid an abrupt end to the carbon fiber look. Flat black tail lights round out the look, along with a gloss black roof. Very cool.

All in all, we just stayed really, really busy!

Marc08EX made the trip in from Phoenix to hang out with us - always great to see an MOL member from out of town stop in and hang out.

Andy (bmrfan) brought a buddy of his, Paul, in from the BMW Club - and Paul brought his beautifully restored BMW 2002 tii with him. What a treat!

There are some paint issues on this respray, some of which will take some wet sanding and rotary work to correct, but even a once over with the DA Microfiber System did wonders for the overall clarity of the finish.

Once again, a huge thank you to Paul for letting me take his beautiful 2002 tii for a spin (yes, he let me drive it!). What a treat!!!

I found that Beige 2002 super interesting.
It was my first time touching one up close and I'm glad I got to play around with such a clean example.

I loved how the owner stopped to talk to me about the seat restoration-- he meticulously cleaned the seats by hand and sprayed them with dye.
    The result looked amazing:

    Impressive seats

What I found interesting was how the owner said he would not affix the spinning propellers to his car until he felt it was complete!
I jokingly asked the owner if that was a BMWCCA rule =P

    Baby C. Beige Paint

All in all, it was a great night at Meguiar's in Irvine with great times with crazy cars and crazy people; it was more reason to keep Thursday nights free and open!

And as always, Mike Stoops was going above and beyond to make sure everyone's paint looked great.

I'm still impressed every time I see Mike effortlessly pick up a bead and work a rotary.
Here he is again showing off with a DW849 on the Beige 2002

The BMW 2002 tii was amazing, 400 miles or so on a new engine! What a fun night.

Michael, do you have any more shots of the whole vehicle? I don't think I grabbed any and I'm sure others would like to see one!

I just amaze me to see how the new Meguiars MF system does and I'm glad I was able to try it out at TNOG. It was worth the 140mile round trip drive everytime.

Just when you thought you've seen everything, a 2002 pulled up and wowed us all. This is why I go to TNOG, you just never know what cool cars will show up.
