Thanks for teaching the class today, Michael! Learned a lot, and my GTI will definitely appreciate it. I'm sure the guys at detail.com do too, since more than a few of us headed over afterwards.

Another great class with a crowd of enthusiastic Car Crazy people! A special "Thank You" to Vanessa for being our photographer for the day

After going through our usual classroom instruction and having a quick lunch, it was out to the garage and a Ford pickup with 250,000 miles on the clock. With that much exposure comes a lot of issues, and this one had it all - swirls, scuffs, embedded dirt, oxidation, dullness, water spots, you name it.

This is a clean, dry hood!

We started with a little claying because the hood felt like 80 grit sandpaper.

This is from just a few passes on a roughly 1' x 1' section.

A few of our attendees had never clayed before so we let them finish off the hood.

We then laid out our test spot areas, one for hand application and the other for machine application, and got to work. We used our tried and true combination of Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Liquid Wax.

On the machine applied test spot we used the same three liquids, with UC on a W8207 polishing pad and UP and ULW on separate W9207 finishing pads.

This is where that combination got us, in very short order, too.

We then put the buffer in the hands of the students and let them have a go at it.
