  • Rookie Mistake, sprayed Ultimate Protectant on car by mistake

    Okay,

I just did a real rookie mistake here. I gave my new car it's first wash during the memorial day weekend. I also gave it it's first wax job using Gold Class Carnauba Plus (it came out looking great by the way). I have been reading that it's good to use the Quick Detailer in between wax job to remove dirt and keep the shine so I went to spray using the bottle. I sprayed on the hood and started to use my microfiber cloth and noticed it was a bit hard to move around. I was thinking "this is some thick detailer".

I then noticed I had the bottle of Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant (for vinyl, rubber & plastic - G14716)) in my hand! I had already rubbed and buffed the stuff onto the area of the hood bringing the paint to a nice shine with it though before I realized it. I quickly got the right stuff (the Quick Detailer - A3316) and started using it and it worked very nicely. I am worried about the small area that I rubbed the Ultimate Protectant on though. Even though it doesn't look like it did anything should I do something?

I plan on washing to car every week or 2 as well. My car is kept in a garage at night but out in the sun during the day in Southern Cali.

Any help/thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You should be fine. As long as it doesn't look scratched and you used QD and a clean micorfiber to clean the area, you should be good to go.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

I would wash it off sooner rather than later, though. Even if you can just wash the hood it would be a good idea.

Or at least QD the section you sprayed ultimate protectant on.

Ultimate Protectant does a pretty darn good job of bonding to plastic and vinyl trim, and if you've ever accidentally gotten some onto the paint adjacent to the trim you know that removing it isn't as easy as your typical water based dressings usually are.

Since you've either gotten it off with the quick detailer follow up, or at the very worst got it spread out to where you don't actually see it, then you shouldn't worry about it - just keep doing your usual routine and you'll be fine.

I would just wash the hood & bumper down really quick.

I would even go over the area with A12 Cleaner/Wax (maroon bottle) just to be sure you got everything off. I have done this before when I got dressing on paint and it works like a charm.
