Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - June 16th, 2011
A bit of a quiet night last night as there were a few no shows, but no matter - we had a great time and plenty of opportunity to put some new users in touch with their inner detailer and learn some serious correction technique.
We started the evening with Greg's beautiful new Audi S5, unfortunately loaded with the dreaded DISO. And this wasn't even the worst of it! Swirls and holograms were running rampant throughout the paintwork.
Of course, being a non metallic black makes this a bigger challenge, but we felt that Ultimate Compound on a W8207 foam polishing pad was up to the task, so that's where we started. Speed 5, moderate pressure, slow arm movements.
We then followed with Ultimate Polish on a W9207 finishing pad, and lastly Ultimate Liquid Wax on a fresh W9207. The result? The Ultimate Trio rescues the S5!
At this point Greg is understandably very excited at the prospect of getting his new baby back to its rightful glory, so he finished off the rest of the quarter panel while we gave him pointers on his techinque. That's Dick in the background looking a bit bored - but he's these dramatic transformations before so this is nothing new to him!
Andy is back from his world travels and came by to touch up his 3 Series.
First inspection of this incredibly clean '05 GTO had us wondering "what do you teach a guy who keeps a car looking this good?!"
As it turns out, there were a few RIDS in the hood, and some 5 year old water spots on the hood scoop surrounds - all of which were resisting Rich's efforts. We took the DA Microfiber System to them and now they're gone.

Rich has been using Gold Class Carnauba Wax on his GTO but we suggested he try Ultimate Wax Paste to really bring up the gloss and make the metallic pop on this lighter colored car. We applied the paste with a W9204 finishing pad. The small amount you see on the pad in this image is all we used to cover the entire hood. Quite frankly, we probably could have covered both fenders in addition, and maybe a door. UPW spreads out super thin with our Thin Film Technology.
We let Rich do the easy part - wiping off the hazed wax!
Meanwhile, Paul was playing with the 3" microfiber disc on his single stage white truck.
Andy put on a quick coat of UPW as well.
