Hello everybody. I'm a noob here but have been a long time user of Meguiar's products. Recently, I purchased a brand new white GTI and wanted to get the paint shining and protected. This is my first ever brand new car so I've been a bit over compulsive with it which in detailing is usually a good thing, but I'm fearful that I overdid it this time.
I've been a long time user of Crystal Paint Cleaner and have used it on all of my cars in the past. I've always used it with a porter cable 7424 and a white mild cutting or cleaning pad. Last week I ran out and couldn't find any at my local auto parts stores so instead I picked up a tube of Ultimate Compound thinking it was a new version of the same thing. So I used it on my car with the buffer speed at 3 with an almost worn white cutting pad, which I believe is the mildest cutting pad compared to an orange or burgundy one and followed up with polish and paint protection.
So today I did some reading on Ultimate Compound for a friend interested in restoring his finish and to my surprise discovered that Ultimate Compound is the 2nd most aggressive product that Meguiar's makes! Now I am kicking myself and want to pound my head against the wall because I feel like I did a lot more harm than good for my car.
With that being said, am I overreacting about hurting my car? How much clear coat do you think was taken off since I didn't use a "proper" cutting pad? Should I do anything now to correct my overkill? Thanks in advance and any input, especially the reassuring will be greatly appreciated.
