hi all, i've just joined MOL so take it easy on me. what i want to know which polish should i use to take out light swirls on my silver metallic paint. they only appear when the sun hits on the right angle, i've got UC at home with DCP would this pure polish be best suited for my car as been silver it says best for dark colours, if not what polish you guys recommend for silver cars, UP maybe, plus i've be using DCP & DCW for the last 15 years on all of my cars can't fault them in anyway.
by the way i've been polishing cars for the last 20 years so i know the technique to do it just these new products come along it gets confusing?? plus you got stay with times as they say. buy the way meguiars is the only car care stuff i've used nothing else these new kids on the block got no idea or done any r & r. and also Meguairs has a car show. i don't see the other companys doing the same. keep up the good work MEGUIARS you've got customer for life thanks.

    First of all, to MOL!

If you haven't read through this yet, I would highly suggest you do: Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle.

Meguiar's offers many cleaner polishes that varies in aggressiveness. Ultimate Compound, SwirlX or ScratchX 2.0 come to mind when you think about removing swirls and defects. Now, Meguiar's usually recommends using the least aggressive method to get the job done. Since you already have Ultimate Compound, it will certainly do the job of removing swirls and defects from your silver metallic paint job. However, there could be less aggressive products that can do the same job without removing as much clear.

You might want to try out SwirlX first and see if it removes the swirls of your paint... If it doesn't then you need to step up to ScratchX 2.0 and see if it removes your problems. If not then you need to step it up to ultimate compound. You get the idea. For more information about product aggressiveness, please read Aggressiveness Order for New Consumer Products.

Are you working by hand or with the g110v2 dual action polisher? If you're working by hand, How To Remove Swirls By Hand will be a great read and if you're using a g110v2 or any type of D/A then An Introduction to the G110v2 and similar will be a great read.

    Hope this helps!

hi all, i've just joined MOL so take it easy on me.
      Not likely.

what i want to know which polish should i use to take out light swirls on my silver metallic paint. they only appear when the sun hits on the right angle, i've got UC at home with DCP would this pure polish be best suited for my car as been silver it says best for dark colours, if not what polish you guys recommend for silver cars, UP maybe, plus i've be using DCP & DCW for the last 15 years on all of my cars can't fault them in anyway.
Try to think of it as needing a 'cleaner' to clean the paint, and the 'polish' to add some oils to the surface. And then the stronger the cleaner, the more it can remove swirls. If applied right of course.

So that would look something like:

      1. Wash
      2. Clay
      3. Clean - SwirlX or Ult. Polish are good for mild cleaner/polishes, but wouldnt really want to remove a lot of swirls with them by hand. Most cars you would be better with UC for swirl removal by hand.
      4. Polish - Not really as critical for a clear coated car. Since SwirlX and Ult. Polish (esp Ult. Polish) both have polishing oils, this would be even less important. But can use the DC Polish (which is a pure polish, no cleaning ability) here if wanted.
      5. Wax - You may like to try the Nxt 2.0.
      6. Wax - 2 thin coats is best.

      7. Maintain - Ult. Quick Wax is great for after future washes.

by the way i've been polishing cars for the last 20 years so i know the technique to do it just these new products come along it gets confusing?? plus you got stay with times as they say.
Always good to look into something like the Smooth Foam Applicators for applying products, and some good MF towels for removing.

Re: light swirls & cob webbing

thanks guys, i'll be doing it all by hand over the weekend taking my time. so after i have finish i'll post up the results.
it has been clayed 2 months ago by me when i brought the car, but only put DCP & DCW just protect it until the weather gets better
yes i use MF towels heaps of them & 6 yellow foam applicators that i just keep in the garage.
i wash the car twice a week, use final inspection after every wash, plus i use UQW
so now the weather is good i'll have a crack at getting the swirls out.

I like NXT 2.0 on light metallic paints. It was very bright and shiny when I applied it on my silver Accord.

Just remember every time you touch the car, you risk putting in swirls. Even with the best towels, sponges ,etc. So dont want to over do it.

Nxt 2.0 would apply most like the traditional waxes.

Ult .Wax is a bit different, still getting the hang of it.

i brought ultimate wax today i'll see how it goes, after using deep crystal wax for the last 10 years
i just finished using ultimate compound 4 hours of it, my hands are about to drop off.
thats the price you pay for not using D/A polish but i get more joy out of hand applicaton.

I myself never liked how ultimate wax looked on my silver paint. I use UW on dark non metallic cars.

Let us know what you think of UW and maybe you can post a picture or two.

Re: light swirls & cob webbing

i thought i'll show my gt after i hand polished it. the products i used were
                      1, meguiars ultimate poolish.
                      2, meguiars deep crystal polish.
                      3, meguiars ultimate polish.
                      4, mothers wax plam attack.
                      5, turtle wax quik detailer.
the process i did as washed the entire car with washing detergent, let it soak for 10mins, then gerni it off. doing each panel 3x passes, then buffed the whole car with mothers wax attack as there where hazing, but i sprayed the quik detailer then buff it. to my amazement no more hazing . then i used the deep crystal polish with meguairs yellow hand applicator. quik detailer to clean any polish residue. went inside to have a break for 30mins arms about to fall off.
then back out to use the ultimate wax this is the first time i've used this new wax as i've been using deep crystal wax for the last 10 years. i was amazed how easy it was to buff off compared to DCW i applyed the wax with the mother's plam wax attack. next day i applyed the second coat of wax.
so here are the results i hope yo enjoy the photo's as much i doing

thanks guys for the kind remarks, as for the ultimate wax it was easy to buff off compare to any other wax i've tried in the last 20 years i've been doing car detailing from home. plus applying it the correct way does help. it all comes down to preparation
