Pictures from Wednesday Night Open Garage - October 26th, 2011
Our last TNOG of the year, and it was on a Wednesday rather than Thursday, but we went out with a bang - using a Porsche 911 Cabrio as a demo car!
This Porsche was pretty well loaded with swirls and straight line scratches, but it was no match for some Ultimate Compound, W8207 polishing pad and the G110v2 buffer.
After claying the hood we moved to the buffer to get rid of those nasty below surface defects. The swirls came out easy enough but some of the straight scratches were pretty deep and required a second, more aggressive pass.
We finished off with M205 and then NXT Tech Wax 2.0
This is the car owner, Steve, getting familiar with the DA.
Steve was generous enough to let a few others get a feel for the buffer on the hood of his 911.
There was plenty of pitting on the hood, but the car has over 60,000 miles on it and this sort of sand blasting is pretty typical. Not much that can be done about this without moving to far more aggressive processes that were outside the realm of what we normally cover at a TNOG session. But the swirls are gone and the paint looks much clearer, brighter and glossier.
This was the end result of our efforts - clarity, gloss and the kind of shine a Porsche deserves!
This Silverado was partially repainted following some damage inflicted when the truck was stolen a while back. After a good claying we started working on several areas with heavy, isolated scratches.
Even though this was a respray, it proved to be quite hard and resistant to correction. A couple of aggressive sessions with Ultimate Compound didn't quite get us to our goal, so we stepped up to the DA Microfiber System. A single pass was all that we needed to fix the issues.
Man, this thing is BIG!
A couple of other projects included (yet another) scratch repair on Kelly's 2011 Prius and some hand application of UC on this 2001 Toyota pickup. The truck owner was going to be working by hand exclusively and so wanted a process that would correct the swirls accumulated in the past decade.
All in all, a great way to end the TNOG season. We look forward to seeing you next spring when we start them back up again!
