  • A Leather Cleaner Without Animal Oils?

I try not to utilize products which contain Animal Products which are obtained after death or at all if possible.

Leather cleaning/conditioning is an interesting one. Of course, I know the leather was from a live animal. Sadly, in my car, they did not offer the MB-Tex plastic that they offer in some of the other cars. Therefore, I have a very small bit of leather, and I might as well condition it, since it is there. I really wish it had been plastic despite how beautiful it is.

Meguiar's simply says their products have aloe and oils. Therefore, I will never know what oils it is, since understandably, they don't talk about ingredients.

Lanolin seems to be in a lot of conditioners. I don't mind this *so* much as it is procured from wool. However, they all have "natural oils," too. Some claim to be tallow or cow foot bone oil, etc. Wolfgang's said mink oil, which really grossed me out!

Does anyone know of one that uses vegetable oils or some alternative?

Thanks for any direction. I've searched quite a few myself, but I only know of so many brands.

Yes, I have been using these for a number of years, a leather supplier sells the cleaning and conditioner kit made of synthetic bio degradable compounds.
you can check them out www.avantileather.com

Thanks Tony!! That helps a BUNCH! Many thanks to you.

Perhaps, someday, Meguiar's will have NXT leather cleaner/conditioner, since NXT is all synthetic products.

However, until then, this looks like a winner!! Again, my thanks and rep power to you!

We use neither animal fat, animal oils, lanolin, or any other animal by products in our leather cleaners and conditioners. As has been noted numerous times here and elsewhere, most automotive leather seating has what amounts to a vinyl clear coat protecting the actual leather. While that often leads people to think that they don't need to do anything to this material since it's "plastic", it is a very unique and specialized "plastic". Great lengths are taken to make this coating look, feel, stretch, etc just like the leather beneath it. It is a fairly porous material that is prone to drying out if neglected. A small amount of leather conditioner on a regular basis is all that's needed, along with a light cleaning every now and then, to keep this material soft and supple.

Sorry to reply so late to this! Awesome information Mr. Stoops. I will keep using Meguiar's! Good to know. I don't know why the other brands need these other products in them.

Very interesting about the vinyl coating on leather.
