Is it normal for M26 to leave an oily residue on the paint?

No, it shouldn't leave any residue behind.

What did you apply before it (ie did you clay, polish?) and what are you wiping it off with?

Polished the car with M205 and a PC with white LC pad, then M26 with a black LC pad. Wiped her down with a brand new MF towel.

Also, how thick of a coat did you apply? How long did it dry?

Re: M26 Leaving an oily residue?

P.S.-Did the same thing on my Caddy. I just thought it was the M7 I used. I used M105 with Surbuf and LC Orange, M205 with LC White, M7 with LC Black, M21 with LC Blue, 2 coats of M26 With LC Gold all done with PC 7424XP. I had to wipe it down with M34 a couple of time and of course put scratches in it trying to get the redisue off. Overkill I know.

              Here it is.

Re: M26 Leaving an oily residue?

The coat was so thin it almost looked like I didn't put anything on it. Dry time was 1 hour.

On my Caddy same thing only dry time was 24 hours between M21 and M26 coats.

I don't post much but am also not a noob.

That sounds very strange being such nice weather conditions

Re: M26 Leaving an oily residue?

Thats what I thought. When it happened on my Caddy as I said I thought it was the M7 but today when it did it on the wifes car with only M205 I was dumb founded.......

It looked like the car was scratched all to heck on my Caddy until I ran my finger across it and it smeared...... I was like WTF???? It came off with some effort and M34. But of course I put some scratches in it....... For a ceramic clear it sure scratches easy.....

So now I know it was not my process.

Not sure on what is wrong with the process everything sounds correct. Will have to what for someone with more knowledge to chime in on this one to get a better answer.

It sounds like you are a fan of using multiple layers / products / steps (which is great).

Do you think there may have been a build-up of various products on there before you started?

*EDIT* just realised you polished with M205 first, which (you would think) would remove anything that was on there before. Hmmm...

The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I've also seen this with M26 occasionally. Mist a MF with water and wipe or use UQD or UQW and the oily film is gone.
