Great stuff, David, and thanks for posting all these pix. Do you know which car won the Ridler Award?

Thanks you guys! This is the least I could do for the ones that were not lucky enough to attend! Sad to not see any of you forum guys at the Meg's display. It was actually the 1st place I made a beeline to.

Not sure. They will probably be posting it somewhere? The car that Jason "One Winged" Killmer (from Griots) did was completely and perfectly amazing. He spent several 100 hours in the final hand sanding alone.

                This was the vehicle:

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

That's actually a Chip Foose design, and it is stunning. I had the good fortune to spend a couple of days with Chip at the Autoweek Fantasy Camp back in May of last year and he told me he was working on this car for SEMA. I asked if he was worried about any potential backlash from MB purists that he was going to customize a 300SL. He admitted that it was a concern, but the he wasn't doing anything that couldn't be easily reversed so that the car could be returned to stock in the future. If you recall seeing the old "Sports Car Revolution" and "Dream Car Garage" shows that used to be on Speed Channel and hosted by Peter Klutt of Legendary Motorcar Company in Canada, you may recall the time when LMC did a ground up restoration on a 300SL for Mercedes Benz to take on tour. Well, this is that very same car so Chip was very aware of how people would feel about customizing an icon.

The interior was left pretty much bone stock, and the changes to the exterior, aside from the two tone paint job, really encompass only trim changes - the length of the front wheel eyebrows, the side strakes over the fender vents (that's a classic Foose touch, by the way), the chrome trim around the base of the car, and a bit of tucking of the bumpers (another Foose classic move). I believe the Rudge style wheels are also updates of his.

More fun ensued when the car arrived at SEMA and Chip noticed sanding marks and pigtails in the paint under the harsh lights of the convention center floor. The car was around the corner from the Ford booth where Derek Bemiss and crew were prepping vehicles as part of the usual Meguiar's/Ford/SEMA team. He approached Chip and asked if he'd like some help, so when Derek and the guys finished prepping the Ford booth they went over and ran the DA Microfiber System over the car to clean everything up. Chip was so thrilled with it all that he took the guys out to dinner that night.
