  • can't decide between "Krauss DB-5800-S" and "G220-V2" in Germany?

    Hi mates,

I'm in Germany and decide to buy a DA to weed out from exhausting detailing job by arms and have more fun with my Meg's detailing staffs

    I can't decide between G220V2 (181 €), Krauss DB-5800-S (German Brand, 133 €) and Kestrel DAS6-Pro (UK brand, 130 €).
it's not about price, but about Power, Pads bagging and vibration.

    my results:

1- on one hand Krauss and Kestrel are more powerful than G220V2 (above table).
2- but on the other hand some folks in UK forums announce that when using soft polishing/waxing pads, the Kestrel DAS6 bogged down under little pressure:

while G220V2 has solved this issue thanks to cruse control:

3- also they say at slow speeds, the G220-V2 vibrated more whereas at higher speeds the Kestral was the machine that gave more vibration. (Full review)

I can't find any reviews about German brand (Krauss) as i don't know German and can't follow their posts. i'm sure the Germany's tools are not easy to beat but can't close my eyes to G220-V2 as well

do you have any comments about these three DAs? It's a trade off between Power, Cruse Control and Vibration!!

    * Meanwhile, my detailing staffs are totally Meg's product, from wash and clay to Ult. Compound, SwirlX, Ult. Polish, A12, ColorX, Ult. Wax, M26, MFs, etc.

    Thanks in advance

As you suspect, there's more to this decision than just a power rating.

And regarding that "power" rating and there being more to this decision than that one number, this should tell you a lot about the design differences with the tools. It would be interesting to know how much pressure the DAS6 can take when running at speed: some buffers available here in the States (and quite popular, too) will bog down easily even at speed 5 but the G110v2/G220v2 will not. You can really lean on them and they will continue to spin the pad.

You'll be spending more time at higher speeds with any DA buffer. Higher speeds are used with slow arm movements for the major defect removal step. Low speeds are used for applying wax, a step that also uses higher arm speeds so you spend a lot less time waxing than correcting. Heck, you can cover an entire car in wax in half the time - or less - that it takes to fully correct just a single panel.

Yes, it is absolutely a trade off. All three tools will have their strong points, no doubt about it. So you need to ask yourself what's important to you, what you're willing to accept, give up, demand, etc.

I guess it means Meguiars managed "less power" in more efficient and effective way to meet the results, instead of increasing the motor power. am i right?

my important points are: 1-not to bog down, 2- less vibration. I think the table turns to G220V2 gradually in my mine.

BTW, i hope someone here have had some experience or know about Krauss to compares it with G220-V2.

        OK.
Finally, I'm going to put the order for G220-v2 to add another item to my Meguiar's collection.

According to above first clip and some other forums, I've been worry about DAS-Pro familly (Krauss, Kestrel, etc.). indeed, can't tolerate pad's reverse turning and/or bogging; especially during waxing with soft pads + Ult. Wax or M26

        Cheers . . .

Sounds great! Now, before you start using the buffer, have a read through this - D/A Buffing 101 - An Introduction to the G110v2 and similar tools
