    "Super Duper ****** Coating"

    So my dad recently bought a new 2012 Toyota Camry S. (About 3 months ago) and it is starting to get pretty dirty. I offered him a nice wash and wax and he said "NO NO! Don't wax it. I had Toyota spray their "T-eflon coating" on the outside so it can't be waxed." He stated the dealer told him that the car shouldn't and doesn't need to be waxed for about 6 years.....(Riiiiiiiiiiiight)

    Side note: he mentioned they did it to the interior too...said his eyes burned like crazy for the first few weeks he drove it.

    Have you guys ever heard of this? Seems sketchy to me.

    6 years??? Interior coating?? Haven't heard of either of those things!

      I had it put on my RV and yes they do not want you to apply any wax. Mine was guaranteed for 5 years.

        Yes. I had it on my previous car many years ago. I had the car for 12 years and parked outside most of the time. The paint was still shiny, except all the swirls, when I traded it in. But I don't recall it can't be waxed. Maybe they afraid you use cleaner wax which might strip the coating.

          How often did they tell your Dad to come back for a reapplication?

            They said one and done. So initial application and that's it. Sounds like they sold him snake oil. Lol!

              Anything I've ever heard about requires the buyer to return every 6 months or so for a 'boost'.

              Yea, me thinks the same about it being 'viper lubricant'.

                  this stuff is ridiculous. think of it as a thick acrylic-like clearcoat that does technically protect paint from scratching, but in the process it becomes full of scratches that are terrible to attempt to correct. its the worst thing ive ever seen done to a vehicle, unless you simply dont ever move the car after. car wash marks are the worst with this--youve seen what they do to clear coat, which is fixable. imagine what it does to something much softer, every impression is left, and attempting to buff it would likely require full removal. i hate it. i think dealers here call it xylon.

                    Whether or not the coating will last for 6 years is highly debatable. But if that coating still gets swirls in it, then what's the point, really? Unless your dad is like the vast majority of consumers and has no idea what swirls really are and/or doesn't really care if they're there or not. If you're a detailer or care care enthusiast, you don't want to see swirls in your paint at all. That means correcting as needed, and correcting swirls in a long term coating will remove the coating, so again, what's the point?

                    But application of an interior protectant that will make your eyes burn for the first few weeks of ownership is just inexcusable. Personally, I would have been screaming for a refund or for the dealer to take the car back. But apparently some people can more easily tolerate both burning of the eyes and a bunch of swirls than I can.

                      exactly, this stuff swirls even more easily than clear coat, and its more difficult to remove from my experience due to the fact its soft and deep and it feels as though youre trying to buff a phone screen protector off a car. it actually feels like a thin 3m clear film. not fun.
