Last week I ordered a Meguiar's Dual Action Polisher(Product # G110V2) from Auto Detailing Solutions (ADS) - advertised alongsideAmazon on Meguiar's website. It arrived today and immediately after unpackingit I plugged it in to try it out. To my surprise, nothing happened. The motormade a few ticking sounds and barely moved.
I called Rick at Auto Detailing Solutions (the place I bought it) regardingthis problem; however he only referred me to the toll free number for Meguiar'sCustomer Care.
I then spoke to Tim in the Megiuar's Customer Care department. I explained thatI just received the polisher today and had pulled the unit out of the box onlyto find that it was defective. Tim instructed me to mail the unit back to theircorporate office, after which they would send me another device. I explainedthat I needed the polisher this weekend and asked if they would send me areplacement overnight, but he declined and said that would cost too much forthem to do. He offered to throw in a few pads to cover the $17 it cost me toship the unit back to them. I was VERY disappointed and shared this with him. Afew pads don't even come close to offsetting the inconvenience (return shippingcost, drive time to FedEx office - 15 miles away, and another 2 weeks delay) ofa problem they created. If this was my company and my product failed in thismanner, I would be tripping over myself with both apologies and offers toremedy the problem to my customer's satisfaction. Nothing even came close here.
For the amount of money I spend on this unit ($170), I expected to receive manyyears of reliable/dependable service. Instead, it was broken before I even hada chance to use it.
I have been a Meguiar's customer for over 20 years and am very disappointedwith both this purchase and the manner in which it was handled. While I canunderstand that occasionally a defective product can occur, I have a hardtime accepting that a prominent company such as Meguiar's isn't willing to dowhatever they can to correct a problem they caused.
I'm hoping someone at Megiuar's will read this and take action tocorrect this problem. I will update this entry if I hear back from them.
