  • Car Wash and the Lawn

My car does NOT leak any fluids. In order to do my "green" thing I would like to wash my car on the lawn in order to make full use of the water. At present I am using Meguiar's Deep Crystal Car Wash. Does anyone know if this will have a deleterious effect on my lawn?

    Cheers, - IAN (Ottawa Canada)

My dad and I have been dumping buckets of all kinds of car wash soaps on the lawn when we finish washing our cars. Never hurt the lawn.

In my opinion, I'm more concerned about you walking and stomping down your lawn as it gets more saturated with water...

        +1.

You will destroy your grass faster by constantly walking accross a wet lawn than just dumping your bucket in the grass after you finish washing.

The end of my dads driveway where the water runs to has the greenest grass....

I think all Megs wash soaps are bio-degradeable?
I think most grasses are pretty hearty....only thing that kills it good is dog piss?

The soap will neutralize acid in your lawn too. I used to think the soapy water would kill lawn. So I purposely dump them onto weed!! You could imagine the result.

If you want to be really environmentally conscious you could consider Meguiar's Rinse Free Express Wash, then you wouldn't waste as much water.

Just watch the wheel cleaners. All of Meguiar's soaps are biodegradable and won't kill your lawn.

Re: Car Wash and the Lawn

MY Dad uses whatever dish soap in under the kitchen sink to wash his car, and many times has washed his car on the lawn. His lawn, (and his car) is immaculate. He has a running, friendly feud with the neighbor over who has the best lawn. Meguiars will not hurt it for sure.

Re: Car Wash and the Lawn

I would think that washing the car on the lawn doesn't benefit the grass or hurt it. In terms of watering the grass the water would only be in small amounts around the car.

Re: Car Wash and the Lawn

nothing will happen if you wash a few cars on your lawn. Now if you wash 10 a day on your lawn you might have a problem.
Also if you really want to go green then switch to Waterless Wash.
Washing one car takes 30 - 50 gallons of water. Compaired to 3oz of waterless wash.

This is good to know. My neighbour is complaining that the HyperWash I use is killing the grass on our shared 11'x7'5 boulevard. I think (and so does a pro grass contractor I asked) that its from not being watered enough, him keeping it cut to short, and in the sun all the time...
