I was detailing my mother in laws neglected Rav 4. After I clayed the car, I started in with the ultimate compound. Then the pad started to spin off...speeds on the dual action polisher were between 3-5. I switched out the pad to a new 7inch red "cut" pad for a few tough spots on the car...and again, it was spinning off. I eventually went to the black finishing pad. The pad wanted to spin off but it was not as bad as the speed was slower. The car came out ok but what is the deal with the pads spinning off? First time it happened.

Re: pad spinning off
Hmm... sounds like there might be a problem with your backing plate.Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

The pads are still together...old or new. They just won't stick to the backing plate. I think it is the plate. I can't believe, after taking care of the unit, that the plate is done. I have used it 4x. What is the life of the plate typically?

Did you let the BP get too hot at any time? ...Just thinking out loud... that may have damaged the little hooks.Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me.
