  • G110v2 can I use foam finishing pad or foam polishing pad for basic wax

    Hi there!

I just bought DA G110v2 and also bought 2 different pads the 6.5-Inch Soft Buff Foam Polishing Pad & 6.5-Inch Soft Buff Foam Finishing Pad. I have a 13 Hyundai Sonata SE I bought about a month and half ago and looking to wax it myself. I have Gold Class Wax for product. I'm thinking I can use the finishing pad and would not hurt the paint right?

Also I live in Florida and this fall/spring is Love Bug season, I noticed with my previous car these nasty bugs ate the front paint away because they were not removed right away. Waxing the car monthly should help to protect the paint right?

    Thank you!

The finishing pad would work best with Gold Class wax. The polishing pad would be for a cleaner wax like A12, or ColorX.

Finishing pad for waxes and synthetics and polishing pad for cleaner waxes.

Yes waxing the car once a month is the best plan of action. If you need to in a pinch a spray wax can work in place of a tradional waxing for the month but be sure to follow up with a coat of wax when you have the time.

        to MOL!

Both polishing and finishing pads will not hurt the paint. Polishing pads have higher mechanical cutting abilities compared to the finishing pads. Like what RPPM and smack said above, if you're using a finishing wax (i.e. Gold Class, NXT 2.0, Ultimate Wax) then it's best to use the foam finishing pads. However, if you're using an all-in-one type of product or a cleaner wax (i.e. ColorX, D151, Cleaner Wax), which means it removes minor swirls and defects while protecting the paint at the same time then it's best to use foam polishing pads to help the product's cleaning ability.

Since others have made the proper recommendation for pad selection when waxing, we'll just add the following little tidbit:

While waxing regularly will definitely help with protecting the paint, don't rely solely on a coat of wax, no matter how fresh (or how good the wax is) to be a complete defense. Waxes and sealants are sacrificial barriers that break down over time. Anything truly nasty that lands on it, like bird droppings or a blanket of love bug guts, will only be slowed down. If something like these two things has the ability to etch into the paint (and they certainly do), then to expect a microscopically thin coat of wax to stop such an attack means you're expecting said microscopically thin coat of wax to actually be stronger than the paint. It's not.

Clean up those really nasty attacks against your paint sooner rather than later, regardless what wax/sealant you've applied, or how recently you've applied it.
