  • Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - September 6th, 2012

We had a variety of projects to work on this past Thursday, starting with a Lexus LS that Chris brought in for us to look at. The paint looked like it had been scoured - swirls, scratches... just a mess. We decided to go straight to the DA Microfiber Correction System to help it out. This is what we started with:

This is a half-and-half following a single pass with D300/DMC5

Same paint, different angle. This gave Chris a process to use to finish off the car later on, so he was good to go.

Dick brought in a new to him SUV that was in great shape. We did some closer inspection but all it really needed was a quick hit of M205 and a proper waxing.

This brand spanking new GTI was in fantastic shape so we just talked about proper maintenance and then hand applied a coat of Ultimate Wax paste just to make sure the owner was waxing properly.

Ed brought in this Acura that is intended to be his daughter's first car. The paint was really rough, but when we found out that the car has well over 200,000 miles on it we decided the paint was actually pretty nice, given its age. Still, we knew it could look better so once again the DAMF System was called into action.

Kelly brought his brother Brandon in for some guidance on cleaning up his MR2. Kelly is a regular at TNOGs so it was great to see him spreading the word!

The paint was just sort of dull overall on the MR2, but this really nasty scratch on the passenger door was the major sore spot for Brendon. An EZ-Up had blown into it during an event when the wind picked up and the poor MR2 got in the way.

We ended up doing a bit of feather sanding since the scratch was so deep.....

Then we used the DAMF System to remove the sanding marks.

The deepest part of the scratch is still there (it was really deep!) but now you have to look for it to find it, rather than having it jump out at you from 20 feet away.

Meanwhile, Paul shows Ed how to apply a paste wax with a G110v2 buffer and a 4" finishing pad.

And we give Brandon some pointers on using the DAMF System to attack his entire car.

Ed takes over with the G110v2 and Ultimate Wax paste.

Brandon takes over with the DAMF System.

This shot of the overhead light reflecting off the hood of the MR2 is in focus, but the paint was so dull and lifeless that it looks fuzzy and blurry.

After a once over with the DAMF System the clarity of the paint is greatly enhanced, as evidenced by the detail you can now see in the reflected light fixture. This is what we mean when we talk about the clarity of the paint.

Thanks! It was great to have all my questions answered. Now I can move on with some confidence.
