Does Anyone Experience Hand Numbness While Using a DA?

I tried out a friend's Griot's Garage Random Orbital over the weekend, and though it had a ton of power, it also made my hands numb and uncomfortable after a few section passes.

I was wondering if this is normal? Does anyone experience this with the G110v2?

Some of it is an individual's sensitivity to the vibration of the tool, some is the level of vibration of the tool itself (they aren't all identical), and some of it just getting used to the feeling. The vibration created by a DA doesn't bother me, personally, in the least, but my hands start to tingle pretty quickly when using a Flex 3401 forced rotation tool. It's a higher frequency vibration and for some reason my hands just don't like it, but it's not a common complaint by any means.

Thank you everyone for the input, especially Mike. Glad to hear it's not uncommon or something to be concerned about. I can always count on MOL!

Guess I'll try machine polishing again soon, and perhaps I'll be more used to the feeling the next time around.

The first time I used a DA polisher I thought the same thing. It just seemed a little uncomfortable. I now use gloves for both comfort and grip improvement, and after using the machine almost daily for six years, I can't even tell any more.

It does affect different people differently, and if you find it uncomfortable next time you use it, just get a good pair if work gloves (with grip of possible) and it should improve the experience a lot. Happy buffing!!

I will just agree with what everyone said. I am fairly new to the DA, started using it after my late July 101 class. The first time at home that I used it I can say it felt like I was using a jack hammer. I have since used the DA just about every weekend if not more often and things are better. I guess it is just getting used to the feel. Like if you are a bike riding newbie you have to grow the calluses before your hands feel right on the grips. Good news is you will become use to it, or will learn ways of using/gripping the tool. For example I was applying wayyyyy too much pressure initially and this caused more vibration to be sent up my arms than usual. Good luck!
