  • Keep or trade-in?

    Hello all!

My brother got me a Buffer/polisher

Its an excellent starter kit however after reading the manual, (yes I read the manual :P) it says that using abrasive compounds is not recommended. Since I know that compounding is very important in the process what is the point in keeping it? That and the head is a massive 10"!!
It does not give me an option to select the speed at which it rotates which I suppose is pretty important.

Should I trade it in for a credit to get something a little better that does have more versatility? I do plan on detailing other people's cars so in the long run it may be worth investing in a Meguiars DA.

I would go with a dual action polisher. You can do corrections safety if you wish

Had one of those and gave it away to a friend. It is a wax spreader and not really a buffer polisher. Go with Megs, Griots or Porter Cable.

Meguiars only has one DA, but could you please be a little more specific with the Porter Cable, they have so many products.
Does Griots' DA have a variable speed change thing? (Wish I could sound more intelligent)

        Thanks!

All 3 mentioned are DA's. Porter Cable 7424xp, Meg's g110v2 and Griots Garage polisher. All 3 have pros and cons. I have the GG and PC and prefer the GG because it is more powerful.

Hmm making a decision will definitely be difficult, however I want to know why the MEGG110v2 varies so much in price through different websites.
            Here at Meguiar's Direct it's $219: http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.do?q=4821
While at AutoGeek its $149: http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-dua...sher-g110.html
            Any Ideas?

All products we sell through Meguiar's Direct are listed at full MSRP simply because we can't undercut our distributors and retailers. We provide this service for those wishing to buy direct from us (in reality, we use a third party group to manage that e-commerce site, but still..........) but we also know that more savvy shoppers will find better pricing elsewhere. Prices will vary from one retailer to another though simply due to either buying power, how much margin they think they need to make, etc.

I would recommend the Griots right now. It's on sale because the version 3 is coming out and comes bundled with pads for less then the prices you mentioned.

                  Re: Keep or trade-in?

                  Next question:
should I order through ADS, or Autogeek?

I see ADS has better packages, however I kinda feel like Autogeek has better customer service...
I'm really looking for something hassle free down the road so if my DA does end up breaking (and is still under warranty) I would not get any turbulance from customer service

Thanks again for all your replies guys!
