A crazy busy day at Barrett-Jackson today - between 4 demos and tons of questions from interested and curious attendees, I didn't have much time at all for pictures. Hopefully that will change tomorrow, but for now here are a few interesting things from the event.
Check out this crazy hand built body wrapped around a small motorcycle. You can see the seller's feet sticking out from inside the ride, and inside it looks like an old scooter. Pretty cool.
The following cars are all from the Salon Collection. That's the group of very high end vehicles that will sell on Saturday evening, and many of these should bring huge money.
This is the 1956 Chrysler Diablo Convertible by Ghia show car. Designed by Virgil Exner and built by Ghia in Italy, this was one of Chrysler's biggest "dream cars" of the 1950s. It's built on a Chrysler 300 chassis and even has the famous Hemi V8 under the hood.
1954 Packard Mitchell Panther Concept Car. One of 4 built, and one of only 2 powered by a supercharged straight 8. The body is all fiberglass.
1949 Delhaye Type 175 Saoutchik Coupe de Ville. This car debuted at the Paris Auto Salon in 1949 and was subsequently purchased for the show for the incredible price of $20,000. This car was on display at last year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance as part of the tribute to the coachwork of Jacques Saoutchik, one of the most flamboyant French coach builders prior to WWII.
The interior of this Saoutchik bodied Delahaye is just as flamboyant as the exterior.
1927 Bugatti Type 38 Four Seat Open Tourer. This is one of the Bugatti road cars that was actually very fast for it's time. Most road going Bugattis were luxurious but not necessarily all that fast. The Type 38 used the same 8 cylinder engine, gearbox and brakes as the hugely successful Type 35A Grand Prix race car, making this road car light, fast and agile.
1952 Allard J2X Racecar. Sydney Allard may have only built 83 cars, but their racing history is legend. This car is powered by a Cadillac 365 cubic inch V8 fitted with a four Stromberg twin choke carburetors. With blistering acceleration and a top speed in excess of 125mph, these were serious racers in the day.
