We have a vacuum cleaner that cleans the carpet. It would make the seats damp though, has anyone tried this before? Don't want to ruin the seats.

Your worried about getting the seats wet?
This isn't a problem, lol, fabric isn't made of paper.
Detailers have been getting seats wet since 1901.
Just don't get them to wet as in, they will dry in a few hours.
The problem is mold/mildew. I always spray down an interior with an odor eater, key word eater. You have to get one that encapsulates and "eats" the odor causing micro organisms.
Put the vehicle in the sun with the windows cracked and you should be fine in a few hours.
