  • Pictures from Barrett-Jackson, West Palm Beach 2013

Day 1 at Barrett-Jackson here in West Palm Beach, FL. The skies are threatening and the forecast is for thunderstorms to move in any time now. But that certainly hasn't dampened the spirits of anyone here just yet!

We always get the prime location at this event - right next to the staging lanes and directly across from Speed's big boom camera!

As always, the cars being offered for sale here run the gamut from classics to customs, exotics to historics, and everything in between!

Kurt Tanner always brings one or two stunning examples of the Austin Healey 3000 - his cars are always among the best presented here. Maybe that's because he always tells me that uses Meguiar's on his restorations......hmmmmmmm.

This Vette has a blower up front and monster meats out back to put the power down!

    Fins baby!

This little MB 190 was turned into a full bore race car - this would make a great track day car!

Flames - a common sight here.

Gotta love reflections in black paint!

No doubt some cars are better presented than others, and this Ford pickup looked great.

    Mooneyes!!

    A collection of old Fords.

    A Volkswagen Thing, "Acapulco Edition"

Talk about patina - the wood on this 1951 Mercury woodie wagon was looking old and tired, but oh so beautiful at the same time.

Another common sight - Meguiar's UQD being used to wipe down cars. In this case, a Corvette Grand Sport with 22,000 miles on the clock that looked literally brand spanking new.

Talk about character - the dash of this 1959 Buick Invicta is just dripping with it.

The 23 Window VW Micro Bus has been selling for huge money lately. This one is beautifully done and in a great color scheme. It has an updated VW crate motor though, so that will likely hurt the sale prices since it's not a numbers matching car, but it comes with a period correct 1500cc engine, so who knows. Keep an eye on this one!

When doing a restomod on an old truck you've got tons of options, not the least of which is in the bed. A nicely finished wood floor with nice stainless trim always looks great, but the thought of actually putting anything back there is almost terrifying!

You could go a bit more utilitarian, like a spray in bed liner with a diamond plate floor.

Or keep the sides painted but use a rubberized floor.

Not quite sure what happened here though - the truck itself was really nicely done but the bed just lets it down. It could very well be that the builder ran out of time before having to get it to FL for the sale, but this just doesn't look quite right. Still, if it holds the price of the truck down someone is going to get a nice truck that can be made pretty awesome with the money they saved.

It's not all fun and games here though. Oh no, we're working hard here, too. Buffer demos keep us busy, and keep people informed about the proper way to take care of their cars. And when demos come out like this, well, even the work turns into fun! This is a Superformance Cobra that we did a quick three step on with the G110v2 - Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, Ultimate Wax. Pretty cool, huh?!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Day 2 from Barrett-Jackson West Palm Beach

This little Fiat 500 was very nicely done and looked great in person. For a mere $15,000 it went home with a new owner, and this would be such a cool little weekend toy without breaking the bank.

It wasn't long before the rains came today, but that didn't stop the auction or the custom cars from rolling on.

You'd think that, bring very British and all, this Jag would be used to a bit of rain.

These two Plymouth GTXs rolled up together, both sporting the same color paint and the same wheels, but one has a vinyl top and flat black hood while the other has a painted roof and hood. Pretty cool seeing them side by side.

Another pair - do you like your TransAm in white or black?

The new C7 Corvette Stingray was on display once again.....

....but this time he brought his convertible brother with him.

More and more classic trucks are showing up at these auctions lately, and not just old American pickups.

This wild '49 Caddy has the engine from a modern CTS-V under the hood! This car is truly a work of art - exceptionally well done in every way.

This is a Rapier SL-C Superlite Coupe on display with duPont Registry. At just 2400lbs and with a 500+HP LS1 engine mounted behind the seats, this is one quick car. Do your own Google searching for it...it doesn't look like this Boston built car ever went into any sort of serious production after being introduced in 2010.

              The amazing Jaguar XJ-220

Rain, rain and, well, more rain.

Even this incredible Corvette show car in our booth got wet.

              Post your beading shots!!

Golly, I could post a nice video from my Chrysler 200 rental car, but that's about it. It's not like we get to drive all the cars at the auction, David!!!

Even a point of view from a rental car in West Palm would be interesting for us home bodies living vicariously through your adventures.

I know this is too late for a suggestion but since you have a go pro with you, maybe it'll be COOL to do a time lapse video while walking around the Barrett Jackson grounds!!!

Our guys do. A few years ago in Scottsdale during the "storm of the century" (the one that quite literally blew Russo & Steele's tents across the freeway and destroyed a couple hundred classic cars in the process) our guys were actually using a leaf blower to get the job done.

Day 3 from Barrett-Jackson West Palm Beach.

                            Finally, a day without rain!!

Saturday is the day the big guns come out at this event, but there are still some great deals to be had. For example, this '72 Mustang Mach 1 sold for just $18,700....

.... and this '69 AMX went to a new home for just $19,800. Both were beautifully presented and sold for Honda Civic/Ford Focus money.

                            1950 Willy's Jeepster

With our location at this event it's like a slow rolling car show happening right in front of us!

This may not be the real deal, but it was very well done. If $28,000 bought this recreation of a '67 Fairlane GTA, how much of a premium might the real thing have brought?

Every year there are more and more classic pickups turning up at these auctions.

Even age and patina can be recreated. This is all paint - airbrushed to look like age.

The Fiat Dino - this one sold for $28,000 and was in very good shape, but more of a really nice driver than a true show car, which might actually make that pretty strong money for this car. But consider this; for that $28,000 the buyer got a rare Italian sports car with the exact same engine as that found in the Ferrari Dino 206GT/GTS that costs ten times as much to acquire.
