  • Gone too far?

Recently gave wet sanding a blast on the wife's black car, majority of scratches came good, but one. Only noticed a difference when it was dark and I put a light source to it. It looks slightly different at a certain angle and is difficult to photograph. It was a deep scratch but it looks a lot better than it was.
I assume I have probably gone through the clear coat and was wondering what affect/effect it will now have on the area and is there anything I should/could do to remedy the mess I've made!! I will post before and after pics when I can.

Pictures will definitely help. Unfortunately, your options will be quite limited if you actually did burn through... but let's verify that before we go any further down that road.

What makes you think it's gone through the CC and not just still slightly hazed from the wet sanding?

Did you happen to notice any black paint transfer onto your sandpaper or polishing pad?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Can you host them on Photobucket or similar?

Hmm, hard to tell from the pics, but I don't think that's necessarily gone through the CC. The whole area looks marred, with the bit next to the scratch even more so. I think it may need more compounding. Proceed carefully and check your work often as you go, checking for black paint transfer onto your pad.

On a separate note - you should dress / restore that plastic trim - it's very faded!

I have gone back over the area again with UC and the rotary, just waiting for nightfall to see if it made the difference!
The trim has also been corrected with turtlewax trim detailer! Good as new!

                Thanks for reposting the pictures

Let us know how that TW stuff holds up / lasts.

Happy with the hood after the rotary/cutting pad/UC and showroom glaze by hand...... found some holograms on the rear passengers side panels and door though, more practice required!!

Hanging out for a DA!! Got my eye on the Griots....

                          Looks good!

So you're using a rotary? That would explain the holograms on the rear passengers side and the suspected holograms I thought I saw around your scratch repair.

                          Proceed with caution...
