  • Which Clay?

I have only used the clay kit that comes with the 2 white bars with QD and MF towels.
Now between dropping some and detailing my car and some friends cars, I need to buy more clay.

The question is, I was thinking of buying the C-2000 mild blue clay with Last Touch instead but I read somewhere that C-2000 may be more agressive than the consumer white clay?
Is this correct? The reason I ask is because I own a black acura with somewhat of a soft paint.
Should I be concerned or am I ok with the C-2000 mild blue clay or should I just stick with the consumer line?

    Re: Which Clay?

The Blue clay is a touch more aggressive, but nothing that is usually a problem for regular detailing.

However, if you have known soft paint, and detail regularly, being safe wont hurt.

There is a 3-bar replacement pack, if you didnt want the QD/towel.

Really? There is a 3 bar replacement pack?
Would you mind telling me where I can order them? I tried autogeek and amazon but I couldn't find one.
There is a 1 bar replacement on amazon but they are charging $18.77 which is insane.

Looks to be on back order though at a lot of places.

I see that Amazon one... hard to tell what that is. The part number matches the 3-bar, but the image doesnt.

          Thank you Murr!
The picture on the amazon one is for a 1 bar as the box states one 50gm bar.
If the part number reflects the 3 bar... perhaps I should check with amazon to make sure since I have other items I will be ordering from Amazon.

            Re: Which Clay?

We have discontinued the 3 bar replacement pack so anything you might find online is going to be residual inventory.

The C2000 mild blue clay is noticeably more aggressive than the white consumer clay and if you have very soft paint it may create a bit of light hazing. This shouldn't be an issue if you plan on doing any sort of correction after claying, even just applying a good cleaner wax, since your softer paint should correct very easily. If you do not plan on doing any level of correction at all but are just going to apply a coat of a non cleaner wax or sealant, you might want to stick with the consumer kit.

Try Wal-Mart, they were selling a clay kit from Meguiars with a 16 oz bottle of Quik Detailer, a Microfiber Supreme Shine and Consumer Clay for around $19.

Thank you Mr. Stoops for the info.

While the consumer white clay worked great, it did require more than a couple of passes. I don't like to put much pressure at all when I am claying and prefer to have the clay to do the work for me.
Looking to do a mini detail with ColorX on polishing pads on my car. I think I am going to try out the C2000 and do a test spot and see where it goes. Besides... some of my friends' cars are dirty and I am sure with C2000, it should make the job faster.
If C2000 leaves hazing on my car... I'll just charge 1 friend $20 and buy the consumer line for myself. lol
Hopefully C2000 will work out great on my car as usual with all other Meguiars stuff I have used!

Yep... but for a similar price, I believe you get 40g of more clay with C2000. I rather get more clay and skip on the QD and MF.
Since clay will outlast QD, I was planning on getting the gallon size of Last Touch and I think I have enough MF as it is. I still have 20 brand new untouched MF.

Heck... at that price, maybe I'll just get this and the C2000!

C2000 and last touch is the way to go. I don't normally have an issue with marring or anything. It is much more economical. A gallon of last touch and C2000 goes a long way.

Glad I found this post. The white clay did not seem to remove the rail dust on my new 2013 Sentra. I was wondering if clay even removes rail dust at all, and if the C2000 would be my best bet for removing the rail dust.

I would go with IronX or Trix for rail dust.

                              Re: Which Clay?

Have you thought of trying the new clay towel technology available now. I think there are couple of companies offering these alternatives. I started using the medium towel from sm Arnold this year and will never go back to clay. I clay about 50 cars a year and this time last year my hands were like claws. The towel saves me almost an hour per car. It does mar more then clay but i always polish when i clay. They cost more but i have about 30 cars on my current towel with no sign of degrading, they claim to last 100 cars. If you drop it, just rinse it off and keep going. If you are doing any volume work they are the way to go, if your just doing your own ride stick with the cheaper clay. Not sure why Megs has not picked up on this tech yet.

I may be slow, but I do poor work.
