What a day! First off, it was hot. And our A/C broke.
Just. Great.
Good thing the MazdaSpeedForums.org members in attendance had a great attitude and know how to have fun! But putting 35+ people into one room on a hot day can be trying, which is further testament to this group's attitude and positive spirit. Did we mention it was hot??
Our parking lot looked like the back lot of a Mazda dealer!
The couple of interlopers who brought "other than Mazda" vehicles respectfully parked around the corner.
A full class!
Our demo car for the day - Josh hasn't really been babying his 3, but we've seen worse.
Plenty of swirls and water spots on black paint - perfect for a demo.
After washing and claying the hood, a little inspection of the paint reveals a smooth finish. Above surface contaminants are now gone, so it's time to move on to the below surface defects. By the way, don't these guys look like they choreographed this? Are they part of an old boy band????
Fun with clay!
A little demo on how NOT to use a compound by hand. Doing this creates pressure points with your fingertips, and that leads to "cheetah spots" in the paint. Don't do this.
Use the length of your fingers to apply pressure to the pad when working by hand.
DA polishing really is easy to master - just keep the pad flat, move slowly, use moderate pressure, and take your time. Here we're using the same Ultimate Compound we used by hand on the other side.
Ultimate Polish was the next step, moving to a black foam finishing pad, slower tool speed, and lighter pressure.
Back out in direct sunlight (and there was plenty of that on this day!!) and everyone inspects the test spot.
Top half - full of swirls and water spots. Bottom half - the Ultimate Trio does it again!
OK, time to give the students some hands on time with the G110v2 dual action polisher.
We aren't kidding when we say we offer "hands on training".
