  • ultimate liquid wax vs paste wax

I currently use the ultimate liquid wax but I heard that you get a lot more applications from the paste wax. Is it true that you get more applications and is it just as easy to put on and take off and the liquid is?

The paste is a bit more like a traditional wax for applying/removing. People use more excess liquid sometimes.

What do you mean by traditional? I've only used newer waxes like gold class liquid and ultimate liquid. Is it the same thing, leave on for 5 minutes and wipe off?

If you're going to use Ultimate Paste you're better off applying it to the entire vehicle, letting it dry for 20 minutes or so, then wiping off. Never, ever scoop wax out of the can - that's a surefire way to use waaaaay more product than you need to. Open a fresh can, wax one car, then look in the can - it should look pretty much like you've never even used it. That's how you know you're applying a thin coat. It will still wipe off easy, but just know that the ingredients that make it a paste will potentially stain plastic trim where as the liquid version will not do that.

Liquid waxes have become much more popular in recent years since they tend to be easier to apply with a buffer, and buffers are more popular than ever with enthusiasts these days. That said, using 4" pads on a DA with the appropriate smaller backing plate allows for easy application of paste waxes with that tool.

Well, I think the Gold Class + wants to sit on until dry. Might be 5 minutes, might be 20. Whatever it takes to dry.

The Ult. Liquid tends to go best if applied, then removed soon after.

The Ult. Paste wax is more like the Gold Class +, where it should stay on until dry and then remove.

To supplement Mike Stoops' post, here's an article he wrote about applying paste waxes via the G110v2:

One of the nicest things about UltWaxLIQUID is that it doesn't stain trim work. Meaning it doesn't leave the ugly 'white' residue in the cracks and crevices. In fact, I use UWLiquid for the trim stuff.

I agree with BillE...one of the things I totally love about the liquid version is being able to apply it on black trim. It's so nice not worrying about getting it on there...it looks great on it.
