  • Leather care for convertible

Does anyone have experience with leather conditioners/protectants for seats in convertibles?

I've used Megs Gold Class to clean, then condition with Lexol. Got to thinking: With the top down most of the summer, these seats probably take a lot of damage from UV rays.

Am I right? If so, are there leather conditioners/protectants that protect against UV damage?

If it makes a difference, I have light tan leather.

    Thanks all!

The most important thing you can do is keep the leather clean and moisturized. Open cars obviously collect more dust inside than closed cars do and that dust can build up and become abrasive to the engineered coating on the leather. This can lead to premature wearing of this coating and ultimate failure. The coating itself should be pretty UV resistant, but it's never a bad idea to supplement that. There shouldn't be any real need for a heavy duty cleaner if you're taking good care of the seats on a regular basis, so something like our Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner does a great job. For 2013 we introduced our Leather Sealer System that offers a dedicated cleaner and a polymer enhanced moisturizer/conditioner. The cleaner is actually pretty potent if you work it in with a terry cloth towel, but a light application with a microfiber towel/applicator isn't overly aggressive and does a great job of pulling embedded dirt out of the pores of the coating. The second step is the polymer coat that goes on like most typical leather conditioners, but it adds no gloss, dries quickly, and the polymer formula allows it to bond to the surface much the same way polymer sealants bond to your paint. This application then takes whatever beating you're going to throw at the leather, and is stain resistant as well.

For the record, I first started using this a year ago (when it was still in development) on my Crossfire roadster and I love that it adds zero gloss or slickness to the finish.
