makita BO6040

I wasn't sure where to post this so if it needs moved' by all means do so.
has any one used one of these? just how different is it from a rotery? is it safer? is it easier? Thanks in advance.

We have one in the shop, I've tried using it for a couple of detailing projects but have always stopped using it and either used a normal rotary buffer or a dual action polisher.

I tried using it on the hood of this truck...



The rotary because of its slow speed tries to walk around on the panel while you're using it. Some strong arms and upper body can control it, but by switching over to a real rotary buffer you can avoid the hassle.

The dual action mode has more power than the porter cable unit, but this made it really easy to haze the finish when using a cleaner/polish like M83.

I like the idea, but couldn't actually use the tool in place of a dedicated tool already in my tool box.

I used to have the Makita 9227 rotary buffer. Somehow I never felt comfortable using that machine. I wanted to buy a PC but because I live in Europe I had to find an alternative. After a lot of reading on the detailing forums I decided to buy the BO6040. I've been using it for a few months now and I just love it. In D/A mode its is extremely easy to control and it works very well. Whenever the D/A doesn't seem to cut it I switch to forced rotation. I don't have a problem controling the machine.

If you want the best of both worlds and only want to buy one machine, this would be the one.

I have just bought the makita 6040 for sanding and polishing
I really like the machine..it sand the heavy body filler like magic
I cant stop using it...i hate my dewalt orbit sander after i got
the makita one... this time i will use it on applying the hi-tech
