Microfiber correction pad text

I was buffing my paint finish yesterday and found myself wishing there was a visual way I could tell if the pad was spinning at the optimum speed. Perhaps you could add a symbol or print to the side that was visible at the optimal rotation speed? Or is there some other way to make the pad so the user can tell if the speed is best?

depending on the color of the backing plate:

light color - use a sharpie and draw a thickish line or symbol

dark color - light piece of masking tape or whiteout works well

But all that does is clearly show if the pad is rotating. How can I tell the correct speed?

There really is no "correct speed" that is universal to all situations. Ultimately, the speed at which the pad rotates is a function of tool speed setting and pressure applied by the operator. And it's this wide variable of speed and pressure that any operator needs to play with to see just what works best on any given paint system, set of defects, etc. Paint polishing isn't really an exact science in the sense that we can tell you "use this liquid, this pad, this speed setting, and this number of passes and you'll always be golden". We can give you a starting point with that sort of information that will achieve a very good result on the majority of paint systems, but it's up to the person running the buffer to read the paint, respond to how it reacts to that starting point, and adjust technique, product, pad, etc.
