Best single-stage polish for D/A??

Hello, my car is covered with very, very fine spider web swirls, nothing big, nothing deep, just very fine but conspicuous enough to be seen in the sunlight. I don't need a serious compound or a multi-stage polishing process, just something to get the minor swirling out in one step. I have a black Dodge Challenger, so from what I understand the clear coat is pretty hard compared to other cars. I was considering D-151 or M-83, but am not sure if this is the type of product I should go for. Any suggestions?

so what you're looking for is a one step process since you have a clear coated vehicle


The words "single stage" immediately conjures up images of paint that is absent of the clear coat protective layer... these cars are generally older than the mid 80s.. the reason I mention this is because paint care for single stage paint jobs requires a different approach than modern clear coated paints


so you want to remove defects as simply as possible in a single step?

if you have a hard clear coat you will most likely need a compound to make significant gains in reducing swirls..

that being said I would pick up some ultimate compound. this will take care of the larger imperfections and swirls while being aggressive enough to get in there and battle the clear coat to level ground... this does finish down pretty damn nicely..


however.. if you want to go the extra step and get a truly amazing finish.....I would follow that up with ultimate polish to refine the abrading done from the compound. This will finish down super crisp clear and glossy and ready for waxing.. and although it take more time.. the results definitely outweigh the extra time put in

I guess you meant single-stage as a one-product process. That would be a cleaner wax (aka all in one). D151 is quite aggressive and should remove swirls without problems. Because you mentioned that swirling is very minor and your car is black - you could also try Black Wax: http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.do?q=36777

Thanks guys for the recommendations...I just now realized that I worded the topic kind of tricky...shouldve put single step, not single stage..my car isnt 40 years old haha

Greg and Bob both make excellent recommendations for true all-in-one products to help remove light to moderate swirls from your black Challenger, but Christopher takes it to the next level with two dedicated products - Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish. So, the question you need to ask yourself is "what do I really want out of the finish on this car?". We have yet to meet a Challenger owner who didn't take an awful lot of pride in their car and really want it to look the very best it possibly can. And that's going to happen with multiple steps.
