  • Barrett-Jackson, Las Vegas, NV 2013

Last week Barrett-Jackson held their Las Vegas auction and of course we were there.

This gorgeous 1929 Ford Roadster has been in our booth a few times, and it's just a beautiful little car. And "little" is accurate as my legs are too darn long for me to be able to drive this car.

This is a matching numbers 1957 Chrysler 300C with a 392 HEMI rated at 375HP. One of these cars ran 145mph at Daytona Beach back in 1957 - an amazing speed for any car back then.

    1953 Jaguar XK120.

1974 Jaguar XKE Series III Roadster or, more appropriately perhaps, OTS (open two seater). Most cars awaiting sale at the auction were being lovingly cared for by their consignor, but these two were just sitting there with a very thick coat of dust on them (not that you can tell from these images, but it was there).

1937 Buick Special 8 Slant Back. This was a very elegant car with plenty of room in the back to stretch out and relax.

    1963 Lincoln Continental Convertible.

1967 Ferrari 330 GTC. A matching numbers car, though it has been repainted and the interior redone, neither in their original colors.

1956 Mercedes Benz 300SL. It did not meet reserve so it was a no sale with a high bid of $1.1 million.

What's this? A gun rack in the back of a........ Rolls Royce???? With a jump seat?

And a snake head horn? You might be thinking "who would do this to a Rolls Royce???"

This 1925 Rolls Royce Phantom was purchased by the Maharaja of Kotah to use as his primary hunting vehicle on his family's estate in India. The Rolls Royce was a very popular car among the Maharaja's of India at that time, many of whom did extensive personalized modifications to their cars even though most were only driven on private grounds. The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance even had a special class for Maharaja Rolls Royces a couple of years ago.

Kurt Tanner brought a collection of Little British Cars to sell - a pair of Austin Healey 3000s, an MGA 1600 and a Triumph TR4A with IRS.

This 1946 Dodge COE 2 Ton truck was just awesome in every way.

Classic pickup trucks were very popular at this sale - all makes, all colors.

Customs are always popular at these auctions, and this beautiful 1951 Mercury Custom Coupe was no exception.

Still street legal, this 1972 Chevy Vega is powered by a 406 cubic inch small block with dual Holley 450 cfm carbs. It's probably a bit quicker than your average Vega

    A very nice 1970 Lotus Europa S2

This little 1994 Panoz Roadster is powered by a Ford 5.0L V8 making 225HP, mated to a Borg Warner T-5 5 speed manual box.

It's not a Barrett-Jackson Auction without some really big fins!

This beautiful 1963 Buick Riviera sold for the shockingly low price of just $19,800. Where else can you get this kind of style for under $20,000????

A beautifully restored 1950 Chrysler Windsor Newport.

Sometimes crazy is fun! This 1961 Ford Anglia Panel Truck is powered by a Chevy 350 small block, narrowed Ford 9" rear end with 3.55 gears and a GM 4 speed box.

No, this isn't the 1950 Chrysler Windsor Newport from two images up, it's a 1953 Packard Clipper. Apparently this was a popular color scheme for this type of car back in the early 1950s!

In car entertainment has changed a lot in the past 20 years. This 1986 Chevrolet pickup was heavily customized in the early '90s, and high tech "infotainment" of the day meant a 10" CRT television with built in VHS video tape deck mounted in the center console. We may smile at this in 2013, but back in the day this "King of Khrome" custom was the World of Wheels Truck of the Year winner.

Yours truly had some demos to conduct, and having a brand spanking new Roush Stage 3 Mustang to work on was a nice bonus.

This beautiful 1941 Willys Custom Roadster would be a blast to own, never mind that one individual who was looking at it with me actually said "it's not very practical". Seriously? Practical? It's a hot rod - they're about pure fun and escape from reality. You want practical, buy a mini van.

All you mobile detailers looking for a truly unique and extremely cool mobile rig, look no further than this wonderfully restored 1954 Chrysler New Yorker Station Wagon. Leather and suede upholstery, mahogany cargo decking and gorgeous paint. How cool would it be rolling up to a customer's place in this baby!

I had these as a kid. Mine would fit in my pocket though.

Talk about metal flake in the paint!!! This 1963 Corvette, "Asteroid", was originally built by George Barris and was a major auto show award winner at the 1963 Long Beach Motorama and the 1963 Mickey Thompson Auto Boat Speed Show, among others. It's not all show, however, even with the highly customized interior; it runs 12.2 in the 1/4 mile, which is fairly amazing for such an elaborate show car. It was even photographed for the cover of the Jan & Dean single, Drag City.

I didn't drive this exact vehicle, but we had an identical one up until a few weeks ago and I've driven that. "Fun" barely begins to describe the experience!! 565 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of torque gets you down the road with a huge grin on your face.

        Sooooo nice!

Normally I can make a 'pick of the litter', not this time. It's like having a nickel and wanting a dimes worth of candy...LOL.

        Thanx Mike...

What a Beauty Competition, as always. Meguiar's Mustang is not bad looking either.

            Mr. Stoops,

Thanks as always for sharing. Unfortunately, as close as I get to Barrett-Jackson is to view the catalog before the sale and this Packard caught my eye and I would really enjoy having this car. The car and some Black Wax....

Of course, that will never happen and your photos always allows us to share in your experiences. Thanks again.
