  • M09 vs M205

    Hi everyone,

M09 and M205 both rate a 4 on the aggressiveness scale, but which is the more aggressive product for removing light to moderate swirls using a DA polisher? I realize that the M09 is the older product and M205 is the newer SMAT product, but would one really be more effective at removing light to moderate swirls in newer paint using a DA machine? Or in other words, if M09 doesn't seem to doing the job, should I move to M205 in the professional line?

Is there an updated "aggressiveness scale" for the Mirror Glaze line?

    Thanks!!!

I would try Ultimate Compound, step up from either, and very DA friendly.

      I agree with Kris

Try UC then go to M205

Thanks. UC is a great product but would prefer to stay with the professional line.

Then M105 is what you want. UC is almost identical to M105 but UC has a longer working cycle than M105 and UC is easier to use.

Can we ask why? UC is derived directly from M105 and uses the same abrasive set, but it's much more user friendly on a DA than M105 is. And if you're really looking for just a step up from M09/M205, then UC actually makes more sense than M105.

Don't let the fact that you can pick up UC at Walmart for just $10 or so put you off from using it. Unless you're working a body shop where fresh paint is being sprayed, you really should give UC a look.

As for a finishing polish on modern clear coat, stick with M205 over M09. The way the SMAT abrasives in M205 work you'll get more clarity out of the finish and better overall gloss as well.

You say modern clearcoat... I am getting ready to work on an 86 Ford crown Vic. Not sure if clear or ss but definitely not modern. Suggestions?
