Non-car detailing question, advice needed please

This is a first for me, not needing help for car detailing on here.... I bought two wooden cigar humidors which the paperwork with them say they were hand painted. The surfaces feel completely smooth so I am guessing they have some kind of finish on them. They had been sitting in the cigar shop un-used for several years, and have some surface scratches in them, which if possible I would like to buff out.

I have almost everything Meguiars makes in the garage (including SwirlX, ScratchX, UC, all the cleaners, NXT wax), so any advise you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks

Looks like a job for the old furniture/piano line of products....

But SwirlX should be ok for a test spot, probably on the bottom to start...

Thanks, I thought of trying the bottom, but it is felt lined. Maybe I'll have my wife try so if it gets worse I can blame her.......
