  • repair advice for a fabric convertible top

I discovered a small nick on my fabric convertible top the other day and wanted to know if this is repairable. I believe the cut was caused by the window tint installer so I'm in the process of getting this worked out with them. But in the meantime, was is the best way to repair this? It appears the cut hasn't gone all the way through the material. It looks like it's only on the surface layer where the woven fabric lies. The fabric is showing some sign of a little fraying. Attached is a photo.

    thanks

Depending how picky/ good a finish you want. There are a few options. Firstly I would be getting the guy who did the work to pay and go to a specialist repairer.

I repaired a tear in a Honda S2000 roof around 3 yrs ago. Will see if I can dig out the pics. I used a tent repair kit.

Firstly I cleaned the roof with a cab roof cleaner to prep. Allowed a few hours for the roof to dry.

Then stuck the patch on the inside to stop it leaking.

I then made sure the teared part of the roof lay flat on the patch. Gave it 24 hrs, then taped off around the tear & filled with more adhesive.

Allowed a further 24hrs before I sealed the whole roof. Ok it looked a bit shinny around the tear/ adhesive but it was a lot cheaper than a new roof.

    Hth's, Rappy.

that looks to small to do a "real" repair. But go to an upholsterer to get the right answer
