  • Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning System - D106 & D116

Different types of stains require different types of cleaners to effectively remove the stains, and to prevent re-soiling due to incomplete stain removal and subsequent wicking of the stain back to the surface. With D106 Fiber Rinse & Tannin Stain Remover and D116 Protein Stain Remover, we've got all the bases covered.

Stains can generally be broken down into two subsets - tannins and proteins. Tannin stains include things like coffee, tea, wine and similar while protein stains are generally things like milk, food, urine and other organic matter. Dealing with those tannin stains is usually fairly straightforward, and D106 makes the process simple and effective. Ready to use, D106 can be used either with a bonnet cleaning method or tamping method. Bonnet Cleaning refers to a process whereby you wrap a towel around a carpet brush and rub it back and forth over the stain, rotating the towel as it becomes soiled. The Tamping Method involves laying the towel onto the stain and firmly pressing the brush against it in successive strikes or blows, again rotating or refolding the towel as it becomes soiled.

Protein stains tend to be a bit more difficult to address. D116 tackles the task by utilizing cleaners that directly attack the proteins. D116 can be used in a couple of different ways: either as a booster to your D106 cleaning solution or used straight, undiluted for very stubborn stains. Either way you use it, however, it is important to then neutralize the area by spraying with a dilute mix of D106. This will minimize the reappearance of the soiled spot that so commonly frustrates us all.

The graphic below outlines these process very clearly.

    Cool!

Any further info on "bonnet cleaning" and the "tamping method"?

So the D106 is RTU on a stain according to the above directions until it comes time for it to neutralize D116--Is that right? Seems expensive if so...

            Sort of.

Looks like it's RTU on Tannin Stains, but heavily diluted for Protein Stains.

... And as you said, it's diluted 20:1 when it comes time for it to neutralize D116.

                  This is GREAT to see..

Meguiar's filling in the market gap and tackling interior cleaning.... the seemingly most overlooked area by the detailing community, while it is the most intimate area of any vehicle due to its constant interaction with passengers.

Most people fail to realizing how much 'dirt' is transferred into a car from a driver entering, driving, then exiting, UNTIL they clean the interior windshield for the first time in a long while and then its streaking like crazy. This is because human oils and skin cells permeate the entire interior from breathing and well shedding. Then add additional passengers, animals, makeup, food [coffee], etc etc. All of these factors add up to almost innumerable combinations of factors that can potentially wreak havoc on interior surfaces.

I can already see the spaces in Wally World and Target being cleared in the near future for the consumer variations of these product lines

So I'm i have to ask, what's the benefit over using APC? I've been using APC+ for upholstery for the last 4 years and have been very happy with the results. Every once in awhile I would run into a particularly tough stain but for the most part nearly everything would come out.

These products are actually quite a bit more effective than all purpose type cleaners are, partly because they use different chemistry for different types of stains but also because they work to prevent the stains from coming back. In some situations, while an all purpose cleaner that is alkaline in nature will do a good job of removing the stain initially, the alkaline salts inherent in the product will be left behind and can cause the stain to reappear as it wicks up from deeper in the fibers, and/or those salts can attract more dirt and cause the area to soil faster in the future. Those types of issues can be halted with the neutralizing rinse outlined above, and/or by using the appropriate cleaning chemistry for the type of stain.

These are very interesting. I can't wait to hear some first hand results about these products. I'm a HUGE fan of APC+ was saddened when I found out I couldn't buy the gallon anymore (being a one man shop, I'm having a hard time justifying buying 5 gallons, but I might have to).

However, it sounds like these are what is effectively replacing APC+??? If so, I guess I'll have to get them, and then maybe switch over to the regular APC for cleaning surfaces like dashes and door jambs. I'll have to get a handle on those dilution ratios too, as they seem a little confusing at first read.

                            Very interested in this.

On another note, is APC+ being discontinued or just in the gallon sizes?
