  • D149 expectations

I used D149 for the first time this weekend. I was expecting it to leave a satin finish. After it dried i couldnt even tell it was applied.
what results should i get with D149?

Sounds like it worked as it is intended. It leaves a matte like finish. Almost like if nothing was applied. It leaves a little UV protection behind and offers light cleaning.

If you want the interior surface to appear as if something is on it, try following with a protectant such as natural shine.

It's available over the counter so your local auto parts store should carry it. I have seen it at walmart as well.

m40 is a great product that leaves a matte finish with the uv properties. in my opinion it also has a nice fragrance. great on all plastics and vynol and also on the weather stripping. only do not use it on leather...

            Re: D149 expectations

D149 was designed to be a light duty interior cleaner, similar to quick detail sprays used on your paint (hence the name, Quik Interior Detailer). It is not a vinyl and plastic dressing but rather a light duty cleaner safe for use on all interior surfaces, including navigation screens and instrument cluster covers. It's primary use is to remove dust and fingerprints from these surfaces, but if sprayed a bit heavier and agitated with a towel it can also do a surprising amount of cleaning (coffee and soda spills in the center console, for example). It really should not alter the appearance of the surface at all as far as gloss goes, but it does offer some very good UV protection.

If you're looking for a product that will leave some level of gloss or sheen on interior plastics and vinyls, then Natural Shine or Supreme Shine (the glossies of the two) are great choices, as is Ultimate Protectant; none of these will leave a greasy, slippery finish and all dry completely dry to the touch. If you're looking for larger packaging in such a product, you might want to look into M40, D170 Hyper Dressing (dilutable in varying ratios to alter the gloss) or D160 All Season Dressing (better suited to exterior trim than the others). None of these should be used on those sensitive navigation screens or instrument cluster covers, however.

Mike, thank you for clearing up my confusion.
My next question is which interior dressing can be applied to leather?
Obviously the seats are leather what what about the doors and dash. Are these areas also leather on most high end vehicles and if so which product should be used?
It seems most interior dressings are geared for vinyl.

D180 is a good product. I tested it on 2 blue leather chairs . The chairs are in good shape and not used often.
When i applied D180 i disvovered how much the color had faded. The leather was also dry and absorbed by the leather. I applied several coats. The leather has a soft shine and looks new again.

What could happen to leather if treated with M40 d170 or God forbid armour all?

It's not that anything negative would happen, but rather than you'd be short changing the surface with a product that isn't really designed to work on it. Leather is a premium surface when compared to vinyl and plastic - it is, after all, animal skin. Yes, it's been tanned, dyed and perhaps even coated but it's still a premium surface that requires more in depth moisturizing than most vinyls and plastics do. It's because of this that we've always said it's fine to use our leather care products on vinyl, but not the vinyl products on leather.
