  • Waterless tire cleaning

Mothers has a video on YouTube demonstrating their Back to Black Tire Cleaner. You spray on and wipe off with a MF. Does Meg's have a product that works in this manner for waterless washing tires? I prefer to stay loyal to Meg's whenever possible and this would complete my waterless detail kit.

    Thanks

As far as I'm aware, all of the Meg's products require proper rinsing after application.

      Re: Waterless tire cleaning

(This is just me thinking out loud) Rinse less and Waterless washes seem to work great. Only thing is they are always buffed off with a clean mf towel from the paint.

So I would assume this method would work for tires (not as quick or thorough, again just thinking out loud) only thing I see wrong is you just apply the cleaner and you don't buff off the left over residue, so while it might look clean the dirt is still on there (or do you? I can't find the video, but have seen it before)

I would say post the link of the video so we can all watch it, but that is considered "contraband" lol (inside joke)

I sprayed it (Meg's Hot Rims Wheel and Tire cleaner) on and wiped it off. I didn't rinse though. Came out great, but not sure if wiping it off is safe and if there are any traces of wheel cleaner that can corrode the rubber.

This is the video I was referring to in my initial post:
Simple, effective tire cleaning does not need to be an involved process. Tires, such as blackwalls and whitewalls, can easily be restored to their rich and ...

          Re: Waterless tire cleaning

personally, i wouldn't do this as a regular CLEANING method because it would prove difficult to adequately remove tire blooming oxidation. Especially in all the tiny cracks and crevices of a tire face. Plus it will ruin MF towels and even terry cloth towels would need to be dedicated to tires after using here.

Then, if doing waterless tire cleaning regularly, you'd only want to wash them with like towels as not to contaminate PAINT towels with the nasty road grime that tires pick up and give off, not to mention brake dust.. So its kind of a nasty cycle to do on a regular basis

That being said, it could be used as an "every other" means of cleaning, if needed

          ____________________________________________________________________________

I think a BETTER solution would be RINSELESS WASHING....

Lightly wet the tire, apply the cleaner, agitate it... then rinse with the minimum amount of water to remove product and grime then dry. In this way you get the tire clean and rinsed of filth and water is conserved. Im very confident this could be accomplished with 1-2 gallons of water if, say the tire was rinsed with a drinking water bottle to regulate the flow amount.

            Re: Waterless tire cleaning

Looking at the video the level of brownish gunk coming off the tire is a tell tale sign that this is a fairly high pH product, which would put it in a similar category to our Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire Cleaner or a fairly potent all purpose cleaner. They are very specific in their recommendation to remove any over spray from the wheel surface and that is because a high pH product, if allowed to self dry on a painted surface, can easily stain it. Notice they used a vehicle with chrome wheels, which are extremely hard and durable and therefore resistant to staining with almost any product (chrome wheel cleaners tend to be highly acidic, by the way, not alkaline).

While we don't recommend using our Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire Cleaner in this manner, we also know that people are going to experiment and test new processes. If you're going to do this, just make sure you do NOT use it as a wheel cleaner with this method. That is, never use any of the three Hot Rims wheel cleaners as a mist and wipe on the wheels, regardless what material your wheels are made of. If you do choose to use this product as a dedicated tire cleaner only, do yourself a favor and follow up on the wheels with something like Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere or either D114 or D115 in a spray bottle to ensure no residue is left behind on the wheel. Any residue that may remain on the tire surface isn't going to be a problem; just never, ever allow such a product to dry on the painted surface of the wheel.

If you're thinking "well then, why not just use APC to do the same thing", keep in mind that APC is also a fairly high pH product and all the same precautions will apply.

Bottom line: if you're going to experiment with any process, always proceed with caution and understand that you are using a product outside of its intended use or process and that you are proceeding at your own risk. Keep in mind, too, that experimentation can end in success or it can end in failure. And failure can range from "well, that didn't work" to "oh snap, I just ruined the ________ I was experimenting on".

Thanks. I used it as a mist and wipe, then followed up with Ult Black Tire coating, and D115 for my wheels . So far so good.......I'll report back when my tires rot lol
