  • Tested out the DA Power System over the weekend

Tested out the DA Power System (with the yellow pad it comes with) on half trunk with some UC and I am impressed. Swirls begone!!! Nice little tool that handles surprisingly well attached to a power drill. A little UP or Color X and wax and it will be like a mirror. Unfortunately, there is a small scratch, that cannot be felt by the finger nail, that it did not remove. How can I get that out? It is a black car.

My thoughts are use more UC, with the DA Power System, and with more pressure, and hold it over the scratch longer? Think that will work or am I going to damage the clearcoat?

Or, put some ScratchX on the DA Power System, more pressure, and hold in place? Will that damage anything.

Or, ScratchX by hand on a foam pad?

Or, any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

UC has more cut and ScratchX so UC would be the better bet.
You shouldn't really hold it in place. You want to keep it moving with more pressure.
Another suggestion would be to try the red pad instead for more cut.

Glad to hear you had success with the DAPS! A lot of people automatically assume that just because it's a drill attachment it's not capable of much, but coupled with some quality pads and a liquid like UC it's actually quite a capable little tool.

As for that isolated scratch, our first recommendation would be to simply go at it again, perhaps with a bit more pressure than you used the first time around. You don't really want to dwell on one spot for a long period of time, but an increase in pressure and slow movement over the area should do the trick. If, after a couple more applications, you're still not able to fully remove the scratch then it might be time to step up to the burgundy cutting pad and UC. This is a recommended procedure with this tool (the Compound Power Pack comes with UC and the burgundy pad) even though there is a chance of some light hazing when using that combo. But that light hazing is easily cleaned up with UP and the yellow pad prior to waxing so it's no big deal. A slight DA haze is very common with a wide variety of compounds and pads, whether ours or anyone else's products, and is just part of machine polishing.

That was the trick. AMAZING tool. I didn't need much pressure just to clean up some very light swirls on the half trunk I did, so I was a little apprehensive about using a little more passion. I was concerned about hazing although I know a little UP would take care of it. Anyway, a little more passion, wipe, and then once again and the scratch is gone. AMAZING. While I will still use my handy little 6 in random orbital for the entire car (it is new with little dealer marring) this little DAPS is a dandy tool for taking car out scratches. Probably super for doing a whole car, but I really don't need full car correction, so the orbital is handy and easier to use to apply Colorx or polish before I wax. Black cars are so gorgeous for the first 15 minutes after a full wax. (It all starts to go downhill as soon as you drive them) LOL Thanks Michale and C8N

Sorry, Michael. I spelled your name incorrectly.
