  • Does Ultimate Quik Wax need time to cure?

Like the title says, does UQW need time to set up, or "cure?" I used it 'for real' for the first time today, I used it on my wife's car before in a few test spots, but I didn't do it with much enthusiasm (I hate doing SUVs) ... anyhow I think because I didn't take my time to do it right, it didn't work too well. I applied it to my Suzuki tonight which was last waxed using Klasse Sealant Glaze almost two months ago. Application and removal were a dream and I could feel the difference in slickness between a finished and unfinished panel when I would wipe the backs of my fingers against the paint.

Anyhow, I lifted the wipers off the windshield so I could apply the UQW to the glass and a few drops of water fell from the wipers to the hood, but they didn't bead up tightly like they do in the videos. So I was just wondering if there was a QW needed to be left alone to cure.

Other than that, the stuff is off to a good start with me and there will definitely be more Ultimate products in my future. After seeing everything about the ULW, it might even replace my Klasse Sealant Glaze if it's as good as it looks to be.

No it's basically a mist and wipe like the ultimate quick detailer. Ur not gonna get the same performance out of a spray wax as u would a paste wax or such. It is basically just a booster between waxes and such.

I think working fast, over a large area, big general mist of spray wax, is when it works best.

I DO have to admit that after my eyes adjusted from staring at the paint so closely, and I gave the UQW a few minutes, the car did LOOK like I had just spent a few hours actually waxing the little beast. It's a beautiful deep red after a polish and wax, I just really wish it wasn't SS paint so it wouldn't oxidize and fade so durn fast.

My experience with sealants has shown that they all need time for the process of curing or cross-linking to take place. UQW is a sealant, and while it looks very nice when just applied, it still takes another 12+ hours for the curing to complete, during which time the surface should be kept dry. I've observed with every sealant I've used that while the paint looks nice immediately after the buff-off it looks appreciably glossier the next day.

Thanks, that's the kind of information I was looking for.

You could technically consider UQW a synthetic wax. Most of us know that a synthetic needs about 12-24 hours to cure. Hopefully Mike Stoops can answer this question for you.

That's what I'm hoping for, an answer from Mike Stoops here or from Mike Phillips on AG

Re: Does Ultimate Quik Wax need time to cure?

OK, technically UQW is indeed a synthetic wax (aka sealant) and as such there is a curing time for the polymers to fully cross link and bond. But don't over think that too much. Spray it onto a clean surface and spread with a microfiber towel, flip the towel and give a final wipe. Done.

As a spray wax it's not going to be a full replacement for either a proper liquid or paste wax application. That said, it is surprisingly durable for a spray wax and, if used after ever wash (assuming you wash once a week) it will definitely keep your car protected and shining for quite some time.

As for any such curing that needs to take place.......Will water beading increase after a 12 to 24 hour period? It's doubtful that you'd notice a massive change here, like almost no beading immediately after application and then crazy tight water beads 12 hours later. It's going to be far more subtle than that. Will gloss and reflectivity increase following a 12 to 24 hour cure time? Maybe, but again it's going to be pretty subtle unless you've got extremely critical eyes. Beyond that, any such cure time should be of very little consequence to the end user. Hopefully the paint is extremely well prepped and free from any above surface contaminants prior to application. That alone will extend the lifespan of any wax/sealant and help the paint look it's best. Of course UQW can be quite the fine defect concealer as well, but such fine defect concealment usually happens immediately and does not improve after any sort of cure time.

Thanks for chiming in Mike, Not having really used a 'quality' spray wax before, I wasn't sure what to expect and with this being a "version" of ULW it raised a few questions for me. Between you and the others, I seemed to have the answers I needed, now on to try the ULW.
