  • Meguair's Quik Interior Detailer Cleaner - unpleasant odor

Cleans OK - but the odor is none too pleasant. Is there something else in the Meguiar's stable that does what this product was designed to do minus the smell?

The smell of it is not the best but it will dissipate after a day or two. You could use one of the interior protectants (Natural Shine, Supreme Shine, Ultimate protectant) or wait for the new car scent protectant (http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...ent-Protectant). Using quik interior detailer followed by a protectant is a common thing to do.

I agree with you about the odor. It's not something you'd want a luxury car to smell like, that's for sure.. As for Ultimate Protectant, thats ok but it doesnt exactly do what QID does because it's not meant to clean..

Imo the product that mostly resembles QID minus the odor would be D101 All Purpose Cleaner sold in gallon concentrate. It can do everything QID can do except maybe LCD Nav screens.. But on the + side it has better cleaning ability even at a 10:1 concentrate [10 parts water/1part concentrate] It's strong enough to clean dirty carpets at that strength, yet safe enough to wipe down vinyl door panels & leather seats. You can even clean exterior plastic trim prior to applying protectant to it. There's lots of great uses for it. A gallon may seem like overkill for you to purchase, but you'll be glad you did. You can even use it around the house and the price is right

It has a fresh neat smell that dissipates moments after it's applied.

I would like to also share that the QID has a horrible vinegar smell.

However this is THE best interior cleaner I have purchased. It cleans up light dirt and hand oils and restores the original factory matte finish with NO sheen/shine whatsoever. I absolutely love it.

Does New Car Protectant add any sort of shine when applied on top of QID? If it does that may be a deal breaker. I just wish this stuff smelled like UQW or UW&W. Some of Megs best smelling products!

It will add some. You can knock it down with a microfiber with a light buff. If you want something with very little shine consider Natural Shine.

I don't see (smell) what the issue is with QID. It smells fine to me... certainly nothing like vinegar!

I'm just wondering if that bottle has gone bad or something?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I didn't like the smell at first, but quickly discovered that it dissipated quickly to a completely neutral smell. I use it on my new car, which still has the new car smell. I spray it onto a Megs applicator pad, then wipe the pad across the interior, then buff off with a glass cleaning microfiber, so that it doesn't leave any fibers. Works a treat !

Have you tried spraying onto a Supreme Shine Microfiber? Works well that way too.

I have the same problem...very bad smell!

Product works well, but has a powerful vinegar odor that is very unpleasant. I checked the spray bottle to see if there was a lot# or batch identifier, but didn't find anything. Nobody in the house wants to use it, because of the smell. Not sure what's going on here.

I find this odd... QID has one of the most wonderful fragrances. I understand we all sense things differently, but did something recently change???

For any of you who have experienced a vinegar smell with QID, please contact our Customer Care Center at 800.347.5700 to have the product replaced. This was a known batch issue and we have since corrected the issue. Those of you who actually enjoy the scent of QID are on target with this - it is a nice smelling product (as is so common with our line) and you have not experienced this particular batch. We do appreciate you chiming in to confirm that this is an anomaly and that the proper scent is indeed pleasant.

Is this the case with the detailer line gallons too? I thought that was just the smell of the product...

No, this only effected the consumer version.
