I have a porter cable 7424XP DA Polisher; I have lake country ccs spot buff foam pads: I was wondering what the best color pad to use with water spot remover on both glass and paint surfaces.

On glass I use the most firm pad I have. On paint, remember...a test spot with the least aggressive method. Don't make a situation worse by using too firm of a pad and making more defects or marring.

A more aggressive clay might. I just get the Meguiars smooth surface clay kit offered at oreillys and such. And also sometimes I want to remove water spots without removing existing layers of wax if I'm working on paint. But the water spots that I have noticed is on my windows are very hard water spots.Jeremy DixonComment

Clay might if they have not etched into the surface yet.
On paint start with a polishing pad. You could also use ultimate compound.
Glass is harder than paint so you could use a cutting pad.Comment

I just left a fairly lengthy response in your other post so I won't repeat it all here but I do want to chime in. Now I see that you do indeed have a DA buffer, and that's great! Attack those water spots, but do yourself a big favor and stick with Ultimate Compound and start with a mid grade pad. I've not used the LC CCS pads in a very long time (just not a fan of the dimpled pads, I prefer a flat pad on a DA for a variety of reasons) so I don't remember which color is which. LC isn't always consistent with their color coding, although they do make some excellent pads. But I digress...... use a mid grade pad to start, set your Porter Cable to speed 5, use moderate pressure, and move the tool slowly over the paint covering an area no larger than about 2' x 2' in a criss-cross motion a couple of times. Wipe off the residue and gauge your progress, repeating if needed. Given the color of your truck, and the fact that you sound like the kind of guy who wants to keep the paint at the highest level possible (and we like that attitude around here!!!), you'll most likely want to follow up with Ultimate Polish on a softer pad before applying your wax/sealant.Michael Stoops

Thanks, I have not had my buffer long, I have used it once: check out my other post entitled i detailed my uncles mail car. Pretty impressive difference I achieved with it. But his car was terrible, the worst i have ever seen.
