  • Extreme makover - 1975 Mini Pickup

Here are some after and before pictures of my pickup. This afternoon I brought it home from the body shop and polished it with Meguiars Ultimate.

    And the before shots

    Wow... just wow!

Looks like a fair bit of effort went into that cool little pickup!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

What an awesome little truck - that thing has got to be a blast!!!

But, "extreme makeover" is a bit of a misnomer here as this is a full on ground up restoration. And what a great thing it is to take some poor, forgotten old car (geez, just look at the front bumper on the poor thing before you started!!) and restore it to it's original glory. Well, probably better than original, truth be told. I love it!!!

How long did the whole process take and is there any chance that it still has the original engine under the hood?

It took 47 months to date. Working on the interior today. 998 cc Engine had been replaced by a Suzuki, which has now been replaced by a Mini 1275 cc engine from a 93 Mini Cooper, also rebuilt from the ground up. To match the power increase I put in Cooper S disc brakes with the 1990 power booster.

This is absolutely awesome, BUT! Unless this was done with a buffer and/or products from meguiars, this doesn't belong here, lol

the final polish was Meguiar's Ultimate, as I use on my Corvair.

                Wow... That looks great.

I guess I have been applying all the products wrong all these years.
