  • Chip Foose's "IMPOSTER" 2015 Ridler Award Winner

Let me start by saying thank you to all the people that had a part in making this happen, Kevin Brown, Jason Rose, Mike Stoops, Jason Kilmer, and Mike Pennington, this wouldn't have been possible without all your support.

I had the amazing opportunity to be involved in the the sanding, polishing and finishing of the "Imposter" to compete for the 2015 Ridler Award, over 200 man hours start to finish with the help of some of the best there is. What an incredible experience it was to work on a project of this magnitude with these guys not to mention Chip Foose.

So here is the beginning, for me anyway. The two pieces you see behind me on the table are the cross members for the engine and the transmission. The objective was to remove all orange peal and sand marks from all the surfaces top and bottom. I spent about 10 hours on each piece.

Next Jason Rose and I did the same process to the engine compartment.

Just to give you perspective, the car was being assembled as were sanding and buffing.

Once we finished the engine compartment it was time for the undercarriage.

No project like this can be finished properly without some custom made toys from Kevin Brown "Buff Daddy"

And of course don't forget your hand made sanding blocks from Jason Kilmer.

Now on to the top surfaces with Jason in the foreground with the New Meguiars MT300 and Kevin with his world renowned "Popeye" forearms.

Notice the bottle Mike Stoops is holding, M105 if i recall correctly (another KBM), to remove scratches on those one off custom built Foose rims and finished with Meguiars Finish Metal Polish and the Dynacone

Chip giving the Imposter the once over.

All said and done this is one amazing piece of art.

    Sanding:
    Meguiars unigrit sanding sheets 2500.
Meguiars unigrit sanding discs 1500 sanding, 1500 foam finishing and 3000 foam finishing.
    Compound:
Meguiars M101,M100 with Meguiars MF cutting discs.
    Polish:
Meguiars M205 with Meguiars DA thin foam finishing disc.

    Thanks for viewing.

Chip Foose's contract with Mother's ran out a few years ago and he is now sponsored by our parent company, 3M. Derek has done work on at least a couple cars for Overhaulin, including he, Jason Rose and Kevin Brown working all night on the Chrysler 300 they did at SEMA a couple of years back.

Derek, thanks so much for posting this - it was an incredible project in it's own right, made all the more amazing that it was a Foose build and it won the Ridler Award!! I was honored to be involved in the project, having arrived immediately after teaching a Saturday Class - talk about a cool day!!!

Could just be because I'm a Chevrolet/GM enthusiast, but I honestly think this is one of Foose's nicest builds to date... and the work these guys did to ensure his work was shown at its best was absolutely stellar.

                            Great work one and all!
