  • Addicted To Gold Class

I've been a member of this forum for a few years and was a lurker before that. I haven't posted much but I am perusing here EVERY SINGLE DAY. I am always on the lookout for anything to help me keep my car looking its best; and I feel that I can never know enough about it. I really am the guy Barry Meguiar referred to in his commercial where he said "Do you think spending all day detailing your car is fun?" I lose all track of time when I'm working on my car; When I first joined up on here I said my wife calls my car "The Mistress" and she still does.
I am by no means a detailing expert; I've just learned what works for my car. I have learned on this forum that sometimes different vehicles need different touches for corrections and the value of a test spot is priceless and can save a ton of needless work.
I have refrained from posting much even though it says here "It ain't bragging if you can back it up" because I it makes me feel like I am bragging.
But this past weekend at the first event I took my car to this year - I just got it out of storage a week ago - someone took a pic of my car that I felt compelled to share with everyone.
Before I put up the pic I will share my detailing exploits. My car has single stage paint with no clear coat. It was restored by the original owner a couple years before I got my hands on it and that's what it was from the factory.
I wash it with Gold Class Car Wash. Meguiars Clay Bar Kit ( of course!). For scratches I use ScratchX or Ultimate Compound if ScratchX isn't enough.
Those 2 products are what got me hooked on Meguiars. In my introduction post a few years ago I related how at the 1st show I put my car in - and it won 1st place in its class when my detailing was nothing more than Quik Detailer and a California Car Duster - some jealous jerk keyed both my front fenders right above the wheels; and I was going crazy trying every scratch removal product on the shelves but nothing was working. So every time I went to a show where you could park wherever you wanted I was trying to position my car so for the whole length of the show the sun wouldn't shining directly on either front fender and exposing these blemishes. But then I spotted those 2 products on the shelf at Wally World and my car's achilles heel was history. When I bought them I also grabbed Ultimate Polish because it said to follow with that and I was glad I did because ScratchX and UC do leave a slight haze on my car's black paint but UP takes it right out.
After claying I use UP. I absolutely love how deep it makes my paint look; and it is what I use to remove the occasional swirl. I've never tried #7 because it doesn't have the swirl removal ability. I also feel this gives my car an extra edge on the show field - I will relate how further down in my post.
My wax of choice is Gold Class Carnauba Plus. I can't stress enough how good it makes my car look. At the shows a lot of people think it was just restored and are amazed the paint is 15+ yrs old. I tried #26 once after UP but it didn't look as good as GCCP IMO; the Gold Class had a much deeper look. I do believe the combo of UP followed by GCCP is the ultimate. Back when I first got my car I was using NXT and it looked great but when I tried GC that was it.
Here's a pic of my car back from when I was using NXT.

Here's the pic someone took of my car Sunday that shows just how deep my car looks thanks to Gold Class. and I haven't even washed and waxed it yet this year.

My car regularly wins 1st place awards at big Pontiac shows and at Camaro / Firebird cruise nights.

And last summer I went to a show that featured replicas of Snowman's trailer truck & Buford T. Justice's cruiser. There were 4 other Bandit TAs there just like mine and mine won the Best Bandit award.
As far as I'm concerned Meguiars has the best car care products PERIOD.

Awesome ride. I'm a huge smokey and the bandit fan as well. But I agree that meguiars has the best products out there. But I'm also a fan of wizards. I'm just now getting into the detailer line and am loving it. The ease of the spray bottles and the cost effectiveness. I'm a weekend warrior but love how I have that professional setup in the garage. Only problem with meguiars is that they don't make all the products u need for detailing. Like tools that they once did or others such as ratchet or iron x. But I agree with u as ifell in love the 1st time I ever used them.

Now that's a great story.... and one heck of a shiny T/A! Nice work, Rich, and congrats on the awards you've picked up over the years with this little movie star!

Thanks Mike I appreciate the compliment. coming from you that really means lot to me. Like I said I don't like to brag but when I saw that pic someone took of my car I just had to share it here because it shows how deep UP & GCCP make the paint look. My TA is in the garage under a car cover when I'm not working on it or going to a cruise night or car show or the rare joyride and as you can see from the pic the GCCP is still doing its job from last May when I put it on. Before every event I detail it with Gold Class Spray Detailer & Spray Wax. The first car show I'm going to is this coming Sunday so Friday I will be giving it its annual bath polish & wax.
I lost track of the number of awards my car has gotten a long time ago.
