  • Tip and tricks to work fast!

    Hey guys,

You guys rocks! I find this forum fascinating to read even if I'm definitely not qualified to contribute.
I was wondering if any of you would like to share some tips "learned the hard way" that helped you cut on the time spent on a job.
So far, I've read about having a check list. I kind of gathered that having the right tools is pretty important too.

What were the "I would never have thought" tricks that made the big diff on the efficiency of your detailing process?
Where does a 'starting up' detailer usually waste time?

    thanks,

    Crazy Vinny

1 tip that I've recently implemented is using multiple wash mitts for a bucket wash. Whether you use a Grit Guard, or like me, rinse the wash mitt before returning to the wash bucket, having multiple mitts to toss into a bucket before having to stop and quickly rinse them all at once allows me to knockout a very large portion of the vehicle in 1 quik bang [especially when using both sides of the mitts] before stopping & rinsing. [rinsing both the car and the mitts]

I had been using 2 for a while.. A couple of weeks ago I bought 3 more and it sped up my wash so much that I just ordered another wash mitt because I want to do 6 mitt washes!

Great Idea Eldorado2k! If really trying to speed things up I could see how that would work.

When dealing with dirty leather I use a soft brush attachment on my porter cable. It cuts my interior time down significantly.

Using a spray wax (my personal favorite is D156) as a drying aid instead of detail spray. It is a significant wax booster and saves time on final wipe down.

Having 3 buckets has been a massive time saver. Two buckets for washing and a third just for wheels. This keeps brake dust better isolated as well.

Products like Car-Pro reset are great to save time on claying.

Waterless and Rinseless washing has been a game changer as well for me for maintenance washes. Having to pull out less equipment and put less stuff away is the real time saver here.

Machine scrub tires. That will save you some time. I just did this and it's great. See this article.

Best darn tire cleaning brush I've ever used! Yep, the Porter Cable with a Cyclo brush mounted to it instead of the backing plate! Takes ALL the elbow

Here I am using the grey cyclo brush and Meguiar's D143.

They'd have to be some extremely dirty tires in order for that to be faster than D108 and a tire brush.^ It takes less than 30sec. of brushing, and on my car, since I use Hyper Dressing + clean the tires frequently, I don't even have to scrub them most of the time. Just spray and hose off

Pulling out the polisher and changing backing plates takes time. Just sayin.

lol it doesn't take long to change out a backing plate. I have still yet to see D108 be a good tire cleaner. D143 owns it.
