  • Pictures from February 13th, 2016 Saturday Class

For our second Detailing 101 Class of the year we had a great group with a lot of first time D/A Polisher users.

One of our attendants happened to be driving a rental car since he recently got in a minor accident with his daily, and upon inspection in direct sunlight, what we had anticipated was true, all sorts of defects within the clear coat paint. A perfect paint condition to show our class attendants a great example of results that can be achieved with proper products and technique.

Before pictures of Jeep rental car:

First up was of course a lesson in the use of a clay bar, specifically our Smooth Surface Clay Kit, to remove any bonded above surface contaminants. This car did not have many above surface contaminants as we have experienced before with rentals, partly because it is likely washed every other day, and any environmental contaminants do not have a chance to bond to the paint with such frequent washing.

Next we explained proper technique when using a dual action polisher. We also reiterate that these swirls and scratches in our demo car come from improper washing techniques & accessories.

We test two different systems of pads & liquid. First is our DFC5 DA Foam Cutting Disc along with our Ultimate Compound:

Next is Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction System, using the D300 Correction Compound on our DMC5 DA Microfiber Cutting Disc:

After inspecting the results from each system with multiple lighting sources, including our garage lighting and pulling the car out into the sun, we decided that for this particular car and paint condition, our D/A Microfiber Correction System was the way to go. We determined this based on a couple factors. Our Ultimate Compound along with our DFC5 test spot actually achieved about 90% correction, but we evaluated that it left behind some of the random deeper scratches. Our D300 DA Microfiber Correction Compound along with our DMC5 removed these deeper scratches after the initial section passes. Our Ultimate Compound along with our DFC5 DA Foam Cutting disc could have taken care of these random deeper scratches with some second section passes, but since our DA Microfiber Correction System took care of them after the intial passes, it ended up being a more efficient combination to use.

Next it was time for the attendants to get hands on with our MT300 DA Polisher and our DA Microfiber Correction System.

Our results were achieved with just two steps! Our DA Microfiber Correction Compound along with our DMC5 DA Microfiber Cutting Disc, and our DA Microfiber Finishing Wax paired with our DA Microfiber Finishing Disc. Time to roll it out into the sun!

Thanks to everyone for coming out! We had a great time!

You can never beat a rental car for being able to demonstrate the results of poor (and most times harsh as well!) washing techniques.

    Great turn around!
