Another great class ready to learn about detailing and Meguiar's products. Our demonstration car was Daniel's Mercedes Benz, which was a beautiful color but was just lacking gloss and clarity. After removing the dust we evaluated the paint for bonded above surface contaminants by physically feeling the paint with our hands. The paint was quite rough, so first up was to clay bar the paint to safely remove the bonded contaminants.

Daniel having fun claying the hood of his car. Typically bonded contaminants cannot be visually seen with our eyes, we can only physically feel them, by simply feeling the paint with our hands when the surface is clean and dry. If the surface feels rough, it is best to use a clay bar.

We pulled the car out into the sun, because proper lighting is the only way we can see defects that are within the clear coat paint. Swirls, scratches, stains, overall lack of clarity for this paint was what we found. Multiple types of lighting sources is recommended for evaluation, sunlight, florescent lights in a garage, halogen lights, led light etc. Without proper lighting most modern clear coat paint finishes look OK, it is only when light is on the surface that the defects are reflected and exposed.

We discuss technique when using a dual action random orbital polisher machine. We discuss that even our most aggressive processes are still very non-invasive when performed properly, but we still recommend starting with the least aggressive approach.

Meguiar's Ultimate Polish applied on our DFP5 Foam Polishing Disc at 4800 OPMs, with our MT300 DA was our first combination for the test spot. We found that the combination eliminated some of the shallow swirl marks, but not all, and also left behind some of the random deeper scratches.

We then used Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, applied with our DFC5 Foam Cutting disc, on our MT300.

Our Ultimate Compound, DFC5, MT300 combination proved to be the winning combination for our goals. All defects where removed.

We let the vehicle owner Daniel try out a dual action polisher for the first time. Daniel displayed great technique for his first time! His arm speed (how fast moving the tool on the surface), moderate pressure, 2X2 working area, and his technique rolling the tool with the contour of the paint to keep the pad flat were all perfect. I explained to the group what to watch for as he used the tool.

Everyone who wanted to try our DA Polisher was able to at this event.

Although not necessary, our DBP3 3 Inch DA Backing Plate along with our 4 Inch Foam Pads are convenient to have for tight areas, and can be applied with our MT300 DA Tool.

Using our DMC3 3 Inch Microfiber Cutting Disc & D300 DA Microfiber Correction Compound to remove a deep scratch.

Results from Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, and Ultimate Liquid Wax applied with our MT300 Dual Action Polisher. Thanks to everyone for coming out!
