  • Pictures from July 7th, 2016 Thursday Night Open Garage

Busy Night at Meguiar's Open Garage here in Irvine, CA. A couple users new to DA polishing, some headlight restoration, swirl removal, and a complete buff out for a friend of the companies.

First up was this 2004 Lexus SUV which had not been washed in several months. The owner wanted to start learning about detailing and how to properly maintain his families vehicles.

We performed a rinse-less wash using our D114 Rinse Free X-Press Wash. Below is a 50/50 of clean vs. dirty side. This was completed by filling up a bucket with a gallon of water, and then pouring in one ounce of the D114 solution. We then threw in a few of our X2020 Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels. First we pre-soaked with a spray solution of D114, and then we would gently use the microfiber towel to clean/wash the hood, flipping to the clean sides of the folded microfiber towel as it became dirty. Once the towel is dirty, it goes into the laundry basket, and not back into the rinse-less solution in the bucket. Our D114 Rinse Free X-Press Wash can also be used with a two bucket system, and a wash mitt like our X3002 Microfiber Wash Mitt, it is just preference.

The hood was loaded with years of bonded contaminants, so we eventually just used our C2100 Professional Aggressive Clay to effective remove them. Our C2100 Pro Aggressive Clay is a good "tool in the tool box" to have around for cars in this condition, but be advised it will commonly produce a light haze to paint which needs to be machine polished afterwards.

We explained after the claying process that this is where one needs to decide what level they are trying to take their paint to. The highest level usually takes a multi step approach with a machine. After we discussed this, the owner said he was not necessarily going after show car results, he was more so just trying to remove the contaminants, restore some gloss, and get some protection on the paint. We opted for G6107 White Wax with is an "all in one cleaner wax" on our MT300 with a DFC5 Foam Cutting Pad. This ended up being a perfect one step to achieve our goal.

Below you can see the before and after of the clarity achieved zooming in on the same overhead light.

    Before White Wax

After White Wax. If you look closely you can see the reflection of the light much more clearly.

Next up was to show the attendants our G2000 Perfect Clarity Headlight Restoration Kit on the same 2004 lexus. This kit does not require sanding or buffing, it is a clean & coat two step process for protection which lasts a year! Really a easy and fun kit to use.

We taped off and protected the surrounding areas. The first step is to use the including cleaning disc by hand (can also be used with our DA power System), along with the step 1 cleaning solution. This steps thoroughly cleans the headlight and removes the oxidation, and prepares it for the step 2 coating.

    After Step 1 Cleaning

Next was to spray the included aerosol coating and after that we are done!

All set with restored clarity for a year!

Another project going on outside was Santiago's newly acquired Honda Accord.

    Before

After using Ultimate Compound with our MT300 on a DFC5 foam cutting pad.

Another project being completed, cleaning up a Subaru WRX.

Next a user wanting to become more familiar with a MT300 DA he purchased.

    Before

    During

After. The paint on the hood was re-painted and pretty hard (resilient to defect removal), so we used our M105 Ultra Cut Compound on our DFC5.

Carity & gloss was greatly improved. We follow M105 with Ultimate Polish & Ultimate Wax.

    Before

    After

Thanks to everyone for helping out with taking pictures & with the various projects!
