  • 20 Years With Meguiar's

In 1996 my dad took me to see his bosses band. I was 19, and had playing drums for ten years at that point. I got to talking with the drummer and noticed his cymbals looked AMAZING! He revealed to me that he was using Meguiar's three step Deep Crystal System.

The next day I ran to Murray's and picked them up, and some terrycloth towels. I spent the next couple days at my gf's house giving my cymbals the Deep Crystal system...!

By then I was interested in how this would work on our cars, and that's when the bug bit me. I bought a 6" black & decker random orbital machine, terrycloth bonnets, and started doing a bunch of cars. By 1998 I had moved on to the rotary buffer and an assortment of Meguiar's Professional Mirror Glaze cleaners, cleaner/polishes, glazes, sealants, and waxes, as well as their line of foam and wool pads.

Around 2002 my detailing decreased to the point of pulling out the buffer occasionally to do some cars for my family.

It was just getting good ....................................

My first experience with Meguiars was their Quick Detailer. Before I could even drive I would clean my 10 speed bicycle with it

          And again!?!?!

          Third time is a charm!

In late 2007 my girl split. She took off with a Co worker. So the flowing spring, with all the extra time I had I dusted off the old rotary, and my assortment of Meguiar's products and got back to caring for cars again.

Mid summer of 2010 the Porter Cable 7424xp made it's way into the arsenal. It absolutely changed the way I buffed vehicles. Back when I bought that rotary I wished for something in between the wax spreader orbital, and the rotary, something a little less high octane. I should have bought the g100 that was in the 2001 Brilliant Solutions catalog.... This was also the first year I'd put Ultimate Compound, SwirlX, and NXT 2.0 to work. This assortment of products combined with the PC became the predominant way I'd cut and polish paint. Once available, I added Ultimate Polish, and Ultimate Liquid Wax to the arsenal. These products are my preference, but due to quantity restrictions I moved to M100, M86, M205, and M2. I think the professional formulas are a touch more potent as well.

I've come to depend I'm Meguiar's to help me put food on the table, stake my reputation on, and to teach others how to care for their vehicles. It's been a lot of fun. It's been a learning experience, and Meguiar's have been there through it all.

Here's to 20 years of association, and to the next 20.

          Thanks, Meguiar's!

That's awesome to hear and reminds me a bit of my 1st memories. It's been exactly 20yrs. for me as well, I also started with a simple bottle of Meguiars car wash [Gold Class] and some terry towels on my 1st car.

I remember the 1st time I met Barry Meguiar at the MOL 10 yr. anniversary party, I arrived a bit late and everyone was already sitting and eating... Mike Stoops welcomed me and told me to grab a plate of BBQ... And Barry Meguiar just happened to be fixing himself a plate right next to me! I couldn't believe it. Lol.

After a few seconds of small talk I told him about my memories of buying that 1st gallon of Gold Class Car Wash to clean my 1st car and how I instantly felt a certain value and quality about the Meguiars product that made me stick with it for many years. I couldn't believe I was talking with the man and he was really nice. It was just cool
